The Air Navigation (Restriction of Flying) (Royal Air Force Syerston) (No. 2) Regulations 2020

The Secretary of State has decided that it is in the public interest to restrict flying in the vicinity of Royal Air Force Syerston, Nottinghamshire, by reason of the intended holding of flying display rehearsals there by a jet formation display team.

The Secretary of State makes the following Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by article 239 of the Air Navigation Order 2016(1).

Citation and commencement

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Air Navigation (Restriction of Flying) (Royal Air Force Syerston) (No. 2) Regulations 2020 and come into force on 3rd June 2020.

Interpretation

2. In regulation 3(1) the times referred to are Co-ordinated Universal Time(2).

Restricted airspace

3.—(1) Subject to paragraph (2), between 0800 hours and 1400 hours on 3rd June 2020, no aircraft is to fly below 8,300 feet above mean sea level within the area bounded by a circle having a radius of 6 nautical miles whose centre is at 530113N 0005451W.

(2) Paragraph (1) does not apply to an aircraft—

(a) flying in accordance with a clearance issued by the air traffic control unit at Royal Air Force Waddington,

(b) flying in accordance with a clearance issued by the air traffic control unit at East Midlands airport, or

(c) flying with the permission of Royal Air Force Syerston air-ground service whilst in the Syerston local flying area.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations impose restrictions on flying in airspace in the vicinity of Syerston, Nottinghamshire, during flying display rehearsals by the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, the Red Arrows, which are due to take place there on 3rd June 2020. In order to protect the display aircraft, other air traffic, and spectators, it is considered that flying should be restricted in the vicinity of the airspace within which the display teams will perform.

In relation to regulation 3, the term ‘aircraft’ includes aircraft as classified by Part 1 of Schedule 4 to the Air Navigation Order 2016.
