CHAPTER cxxiii.
An Act to confer further powers upon the Stafford- A-D-1937-
shire Potteries Water Board to empower the
Board to construct further waterworks to re-
define the limits of the Board for the supply of
water to make further provision with regard to
the water undertaking of the Board and the
supply of water by them to amend the Acts of
the Board and for other purposes.

HEREAS the Staffordshire Potteries Water Board
(in this Act called " the Board ") were by the
Staffordshire Potteries Water Board Act 1924 (in this

Act called " the Act of 1924 ") constituted and incorpo- Geo- 5;.
rated for the purposes of acquiring the water undertaking c- m-
of the Staffordshire Potteries Waterworks Company (in
this Act called " the company ") and of supplying water
within the limits prescribed by that Act comprising
the city of Stoke-on-Trent and parts of the county
of Stafford (in this Act called " the existing limits of
supply"):
And whereas by the Act of 1924 it was (inter alia)
provided that all the powers rights privileges autho-
rities duties and obligations of the company under the
Staffordshire Potteries Waterworks Acts 1853 to 1922
should by virtue of that Act be transferred to vested
in and imposed on the Board and that those Acts should
be read and have effect as if the Board had been therein

1937, named instead of the company subject to certain
exceptions and provisions in the said Act mentioned:
And whereas further powers with respect to the
construction of a further waterwork and to the acqui-
sition of lands and otherwise in respect of their water
undertaking were conferred upon the Board by the

Staffordshire Potteries Water Board Act 1928 (in this
5- Act called " the Act of 1928 "):
c. lxxv. And whereas the population within the limits of
supply which is largely dependent for the supply of
water for public and private purposes upon the existing
sources of supply of the Board is growing and the con-
sumption of water for such purposes is much increasing :
And whereas it is expedient that the Board should
be empowered to make and maintain the additional
waterworks authorised by this Act:

And whereas by the Stoke-on-Trent Extension Act

1929 and by the Borough of Newcastle-under-Lyme
c xxra. (Extension) Order 1931 the Staffordshire (North Western
Areas) Order 1932 and the Staffordshire Review Order
1934 made by the Minister of Health under section 46
19 & 20
of the Local Government Act 1929 various local govern-

men-fc areas were altered and it is expedient that the
limits of supply of the Board should be redefined:
And whereas it is expedient to make further provi-
sions with regard to the water undertaking of the Board
and the supply of water by them and with regard to
the finances of the Board and that the other provisions
of this Act be enacted:
And whereas the purposes of this Act cannot be.
effected without the authority of Parliament:
And whereas estimates have been prepared by the
Board for the purposes hereinafter mentioned and such
estimates are as follows : £
For the construction of buildings pumps
and engines for and in connection
with the pumping stations authorised
by this Act 124,500
For the construction of the aqueducts
authorised by this Act - - - 369,200

for and in connection with the pump- -^
ing stations and of the reservoirs
authorised by this Act - - - 170,300
For the purchase of lands and easements
for and in connection with the works
authorised by this Act - - - 16,500
And whereas the several works included in such
estimates are permanent works and it is expedient that
the cost thereof be spread over a term of years:
And whereas the provisions of subsection (3) of
section 51 of the Act of 1924 relating to the promotion
by the Board of Bills in Parliament have been observed
in relation to the Bill for this Act:
And whereas plans and sections showing the lines
and levels of the works authorised by this Act and also
a book of reference containing the names of the owners
and lessees or reputed owners and lessees and of the
occupiers of the lands required or which may be taken
for the purposes or under the powers of this Act were
duly deposited with the respective clerks of the admin-
istrative counties of Chester and Stafford and with the
town clerk of the city of Stoke-on-Trent which plans
sections and book of reference are in this Act respec-
tively referred to as the deposited plans sections and
book of reference:
May it therefore please Your Majesty that it may
be
enacted and be it enacted by the King's most Excellent
Majesty by and with the advice and consent of the Lords
Spiritual and Temporal and Commons in this present
Parliament assembled and by the authority of the same
as follows (that is to say):
PART I.
PRELIMINARY.
1.
This Act may be cited as the Staffordshire Short
and
Potteries Water Board Act 1937 and this Act and coUective
the Staffordshire Potteries Water Board Acts 1853 tltles-
to 1928 may be cited together as the Staffordshire
Potteries Water Board Acts 1853 to 1937.
