HEREAS by " The
Nene Valley
Drainage and Navi-

gation Improvement Act, 1852," the Parishes, Portions of
c.
exxviil.
Parishes, Townships, and Extra-parochial Places in the
Counties of
Northampton, Huntingdon,
and
Cambridge,
therein in
that Behalf named, were respectively constituted, for the Purposes of that
Act, the First, Second, and Third Districts, and the Places in those
Counties therein in that Behalf specified were respectively constituted,
for the Purposes of that Act, the First, Second, and Third Navigation
Divisions, and the Nene Valley
Drainage and Navigation Improvement
Commissioners (therein called " the incorporated Commissioners ")
were authorized to execute Works for the Improvement of the
Nene
Valley
Drainage and Navigation and other Works, and to borrow for
that Purpose any Sums not exceeding Two hundred and eighty thou-
sand Pounds ; And whereas, in addition to the Tolls arising in the
'Third. Navigation Division, and upon the Bridge called "

Doublet" Bridge,
Provision was by that Act made for the following Con-
tributions towards the Expense of the Execution and Maintenance by
the incorporated Commissioners of Works in the Third District; to wit,
First, " the Outfall Tax," being a single Tax or Assessment of
Twenty-five Times the Amount of an Assessment equal to an
Average of One Shilling an Acre on the Meadows and Lands in
the First and Second Districts and the flooded Lands in
Standground
in the Third District, and to be paid by the
Owners or Occupiers of those Meadows, Lands, and flooded
Lands
Secondly, a Tax of Eight Shillings an Acre on the Wash Lands in
the Third District, containing altogether Three thousand four
hundred and fifty Acres, or thereabouts, to be paid by the
Owners or Occupiers thereof :
Thirdly, Forty thousand Pounds, to be paid by the Mayor, Alder-
men, and Burgesses of the Borough of
Wisbech
(in this Act
called the
Wisbech
Corporation), in Three equal Instalments,
together with
a
Duty of One Halfpenny per Ton upon all Goods
imported into the Port of
Wisbech,
as in such Act mentioned :
Fourthly, Two thousand Pounds gratuitously agreed to be paid by
the most Noble
Francis
Duke of
Bedford,
Knight of the most
Noble Order of the Garter, his Heirs or Assigns :
Fifthly, Two thousand five hundred Pounds, to be raised by the
North Level
Commissioners, and to be paid, as to Two thousand
Pounds, Part thereof by the Owners of Lands lying within the
North Level
exclusive of
Great Portsand,
and as to Five
hundred Pounds, Residue thereof, by the Owners of Lands lying
within the North Level
and
Great Portsand,
and to be so raised
by a Tax of One Shilling and Threepence Farthing an Acre on
Part of those Lands, and by a Tax of Threepence Farthing an
A cre on all the Lands :

Sixthly, One thousand five hundred Pounds, to be paid by the
Governor, Bailiffs, and Commonalty of the Company of Con-
servators of the Great Level of the Fens called
Bedford Level
(in this Act called " The
Bedford Level
Corporation,") by Two
Instalments, One of Five hundred Pounds, and the other of One
thousand Pounds :
Seventhly, Five thousand five hundred Pounds, to be raised by the
Waldersey
Drainage Commissioners, and to be paid by the Owners
or Occupiers of Lands in the
Waldersey
Drainage District, by
Three Instalments, Two of Two thousand Pounds each, and One
of One thousand five hundred Pounds, together with an annual
Contribution to be charged upon the Proprietors of Lands and
Grounds then liable to be charged with Sewers Rate or other
Assessments, as mentioned in the said Act :
