CHAPTER clx.
An Act for the sale of the Gravesend Town Quay and Pier A.D. 1884.
to the London Tilbury and Southend Railway Company:
and for other purposes.

THEHEAS under and by virtue of the three several Acts of
Parliament following (in this Act referred to as the recited
Acts) (that is to say):
An Act of the ninth year of the reign of His late Majesty King
George the Fourth cap. 56 :
An Act of the third and fourth years of the reign of His late
Majesty King William the Fourth cap. 101 : and
An Act of the fifth year of the reign of Her present Majesty
Queen Victoria cap. 58 :
the mayor aldermen and burgesses of the borough of Gravesend in
the county of Kent (in this Act called "the corporation") have
constructed and are now possessed of a quay or landing-place (in
this Act called " the quay ") and a pier or jetty with barges or
floating platforms and other Avorks connected therewith (in this Act
called "the pier") abutting on the River Thames in the town of
Gravesend and are entitled to demand and take in respect thereof
the tolls rates and duties prescribed in and authorised by the said
Acts or one of them including the toll of not exceeding f ourpence
prescribed in and authorised by the said recited Act of the 3rd
and 4th William IV. chapter 101 in respect of every passenger
embarking or disembarking on or from any ship hoy packet or
other vessel used or employed for the purpose of carrying pas-
sengers for hire from London to Gravesend or from Gravesend to
London:
And whereas the corporation have borrowed on mortgage under
the authority of the said Acts and for the purposes thereof divers
sums of money of which there is now due twenty-one thousand five
hundred and fifty pounds together with considerable arrears of
interest thereon:
