CHAPTER xcv.
An Act to empower the lord mayor aldermen and
A.D.
1934.
citizens of the city of Cardiff to acquire and
develop certain lands and to provide trolley
vehicle services in the city to confer upon them
further powers with reference to their water
undertaking to make further provision for the
health and good government and with regard
to the finance of the city and for other purposes.

HEREAS the city of Cardiff (hereinafter referred
to as " the city ") is a county borough under
the government of the lord mayor aldermen and citizens
of the city (hereinafter referred to as " the Corporation ")
and the Corporation acting by the council are the urban
sanitary7 authority for the city and are also the port
sanitary authority for the port sanitary district of
Cardiff:
And whereas it is expedient that the Corporation
should be empowered to acquire certain lands in the
city for the purposes in this Act mentioned and that the
powers with respect thereto contained in this Act should
be conferred upon them :
And whereas under various Acts and Orders the
Corporation own and work tramways in the city and it
is expedient that they should be empoAvered to provide
and work trolley vehicles upon the routes of such
tramways and that the provisions with reference to the

1934. abandonment of such tramways and the further powers
with reference to the running of trolley vehicles contained
in this Act should be enacted and conferred :
And whereas the Corporation are the owners of the
water undertaking of the city and under the provisions
of various Acts and Orders supply water in the city and
certain parishes and places adjacent thereto in the county
of Glamorgan :
And whereas under the provisions of the Cardiff
Corporation Act 1884 as amended by the Cardiff
Corporation Act 1909 the Corporation are required to
discharge compensation water into the river Taff Fawr
from certain of the reservoirs authorised by those Acts
respectively:
And whereas it is expedient that the said provisions
relating to the discharge of compensation water should
be amended as by this Act provided and that such
further powers with reference to the said water under-
taking as are contained in this Act should be conferred
upon the Corporation :
And whereas it is expedient that further and better
provision should be made for the health local government
and improvement of the city and that the powers of the
Corporation in regard thereto should be enlarged as in
this Act provided:
And whereas by the Cardiff Corporation Act 1920
as amended and extended by the Cardiff Corporation
Act 1930 provision was made for the establishment of
a superannuation fund and the payment thereout of
superannuation allowances to officers and servants of the
Corporation and to certain other persons and it is
expedient that the provisions of those Acts relating to
the said superannuation fund should be further amended
as by this Act provided :
And whereas it is expedient that the provisions
with regard to the finances of the Corporation which
are contained in this Act should be made and that
the Corporation should be empowered to borrow money
for the purposes of this Act:
And whereas it is expedient that the other provisions
contained in this Act should be made :
And whereas the purposes aforesaid cannot be
effected without the authority of Parliament:

And whereas a plan showing the lands which the A.D. 1934.
Corporation may acquire compulsorily under the powers
of this Act and a book of reference to such plan containing
the names of the owners or reputed owners lessees or
reputed lessees and of the occupiers of all such lands and
describing the same have been deposited with the town
clerk of the city which plan and book of reference are
in this Act respectively referred to as the deposited plan
and the deposited book of reference :
And whereas in relation to the promotion of the Bill
for this Act the requirements of the Borough Funds Acts
1872 and 1903 have been observed :
May it therefore please Your Majesty that it may
be enacted and be it enacted by the King's most Excellent
Majesty by and with the advice and consent of the
Lords Spiritual and Temporal and Commons in this
present Parliament assembled and by the authority of
the same as follows (that is to say):

This Act may be cited as the Cardiff Corporation Short title.

2.
This Act is divided into Parts as follows :
Part I.—Preliminary.
Part II.—Lands.
Part III.—Trolley vehicles.
Part IV.—Water.
Part V.—Human food.
Part VI.—Superannuation.
Part VII.—Financial.
Part VIIL—Miscellaneous.
3.
The following Acts or parts of Acts (so far as incor-
the same are applicable for the purposes and are not porationof
inconsistent with the provisions of this Act) are hereby Acts-
incorporated with this Act (that is to say):
(1) The Lands Clauses Acts with the following
exception and modification (namely):
(a) Section 127 of the Lands Clauses Con-
solidation Act 1845 (relating to the sale of
superfluous lands) is not incorporated with
this Act; A2 3
