An Act to confer further powers on the mayor, aldermen
and burgesses of the London borough of Hounslow in
relation to lands and streets; to empower them to
establish an undertaking for the supply of heat; to
confer further powers on them in relation to the
management and control of their market undertaking;
to make further provision for the
finances,
improvement,
local government and health of the borough; and for
other purposes. [26th July 1968]
T17HEREAS
(1) The London borough of Hounslow (hereinafter called
" tiie borough ") is a London borough under the management
and local government of the mayor, aldermen and burgesses of
the borough (hereinafter called " the Corporation "):
(2) It is expedient that the Corporation should be authorised
to supply heat to premises within and outside the borough as
by
this Act provided:
(3) The Corporation are the owners of a market within the
borough and it is expedient to confer further powers upon the
Corporation in relation to the management and control of their
market undertaking and that the powers of the Corporation in
relation thereto should be enlarged and extended as in this Act
provided:

(4) There are in force in the borough certain local Acts and it
would be of local and public advantage if the provisions of
those
Acts were consolidated with certain amendments and additions
in one Act:
(5) It is expedient that the other provisions contained in this
Act should be enacted:
(6) The purposes of this Act cannot be effected without the
authority of Parliament:
(7) In relation to the promotion of the Bill for this Act the
requirements of Part XIII of the Local Government Act, 1933,
as applied by the London Government Act, 1963, have been
observed:

November, 1967, deposited in the office of the Clerk of the
Parliaments, House of
Lords,
and in the Private Bill Office of
the
House of Commons and in the office of the town clerk of the
borough:
May it therefore please Your Majesty that it may be enacted,
and be it enacted, by the Queen's most Excellent Majesty, by and
with the advice and consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal,
and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the
authority of the same, as follows, that is to say:

This Act may be cited as the Hounslow Corporation Act
1968.
2.
This Act is divided into Parts, as follows:
Part I.—Preliminary.
Part II.—Lands.
Part III.—District heating.
Part IV.—Market undertaking.
Part V.—Finance.
Part VI.—Miscellaneous.
Part VH.—General.
Interpretation. 3.—<1) In this Act the several words and expressions to which
meanings are assigned by section
343
of the Act of
1936
have the
same respective meanings, unless there be something in the
subject or context repugnant to such construction.
(2) In
this
Act,
unless the subject or context otherwise requires
"the Act of 1911" means the Chiswick Urban District
1911

" the Act of
1933
" means the Local Government Act, 1933; PART 1

" apparatus" means
(a) in relation to the Southern Electricity Board,
electric lines and works (as respectively defined in
the Electric Lighting Act, 1882) belonging to ori882c. 56.
maintained by that board;
(b) in relation to the North Thames Gas Board or
the Metropolitan Water Board, mains, pipes or other
apparatus belonging to or maintained by those
boards;
(not being in any case apparatus in respect of which the
relations between the Corporation and the Southern
Electricity Board and the North Thames Gas Board are
regulated by the provisions of Part II of the Public
Utilities Street Works Act, 1950) and includes any

works constructed for the lodging therein of apparatus;
" the borough " means the London borough of Hounslow;
" contravention" includes a failure to comply, and
" contravene " shall be construed accordingly;
"the Corporation" means the mayor, aldermen and
burgesses of the borough;
" the council" means the council of the borough;
" enactment" includes an enactment in this Act or in any
general or local Act or any order, byelaw, scheme or
regulation for the time being in force within the borough;
" the London council" means the Greater London Council;
"magistrates' court" has the same meaning as in the
Magistrates' Courts Act, 1952; 1952 c-55-
" metropolitan road " has the same meaning as in the Act
of 1963;
" the Minister " means the Minister of Housing and Local
Government;
" Minister of the Crown " has the same meaning as in the
Ministers of the Crown (Transfer of Functions) Act,
1946
