for taking down and rebuilding the Whole or
Part of
a
certain Bridge called Walling ford Bridge^
in the Borough of Wallingford^ in the County of
JSerks; and for opening, widening, and improving
the Avenues or Approaches to the faid Bridge.

REREAS the Bridge acrofs the River Thames^ within the
Borough of Wallinffcrd^ in the County of Berks, called WaU
lingford
Bridge^
is veivy ancient and greatly decayed, and from
the Violence of the late Floods* various Parts of it have been broken
down, and other Parts fo much damaged, that the fame is become
impaf-
fable: And whereas the Mayor, Burgeffes, and Commonalty of the Bo^
rough of ^^//m^riaforefaid (being the Corporation of the faid Borough)
are entitled to and do receive Tolls for certain Cattle and Carriages
pafling over, and Barges palling under the faid7Bridge, and alfo divers
yearly Rents payable out of or for feveral Houfes and Tenements within
the faid Borough and in the Parifh of
Eenfington

for the Purpofe of fupporting the faid Bridge: And
whereas various Sums of Money arifing from

faid Income have from
Time to Time been expended in the Support of the faid Bridge, and upon
the Balance of Accounts in refpett thereof made up to the Twenty-

fourth Day of April One thoufand eight hundred and nine, there remains
due from the Corporation, as n€M is can be afeeftained, the Sum of
Three hundred arid /ifty-one Pounds Four Shillings and Five Pence
Half-
penny : Ami whereas it. will be greatly for the Benefit
and.
Ad vantage of
the Inhabitants of the faid Borough, and the Public, thai the Communi-
cation between the Counties of Berks and Oxford fbould be reflated as
fpeedily as may be, by the taking down and rebuilding fo much of the
faid Bridge as fhall be neceflary, and effe&ually repairing the other Parts
thereof,
and that the Avenues or Approaches thereto fhould be widened
and rendered more commodious: But as the Fund applicable to thofe Pur-
pofes is very inadequate, the fame cannot be effected without the AA and
Authority of Parliament; may ir therefore pkafe Your Majefty thru ic may
be enafted ; and be it enadted by the King's mod Excellent Majeftv, by
and with the Advice and Confent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal,
and Commons, in this prefent Parliament aflembied and bv the Authority
of jhe fame* That the Mayor, High Steward, Recorder, Aide,men,
Town Clerk, and Eighteen Affiftants of the faid Borough of
Wallingford

any Meeting to be holden in purfuancr. of this Aft, the Number of
Truf-
tees prefent at every fuch Meeting not being Ids than Five, and all the
Orders and Proceedings of the maj:;r Part of the Truftees prefent at fuch
their feverat Meeci^gs fhall have th
fame Force an;: Effect as if the fame
were made or done by all luch Truftees for the Time being, fave and
except as herein-after mentioned ; and that at every Meeting of the faid
Truft-.cs a Chairman fhall and may be appointed j and when and as
often a* it fhali happen [hat there fhl be an Equality of Votes at any
fuch Meeting upon any Queftion-(ineludmg the Vote of
the
Chairman), then
and in every iWh Cafe it ftuii be lawful for fuch Chairman to give the
dccifive 01 calling Vote.
