An Act for making a Railway from the South Wales
Railway, at or near to the Town of Neath, to
Merthyr Tidvil, with Branches, to be called "The
Vale of Neath Railway." [3d August 1846.]
HERE AS the making of a Railway from the South Wales
Railway at or near the Town of Neath to the Town of
Merthyr Tydfil, and also Branch Railways therefrom to
join the Aberdare Railway in the Parish of Aberdare, and to Penderyn
in the Parish of Penderyn in the County of Brecon, and to certain
Collieries and other Works in the County of Glamorgan, would be
of great Advantage: And whereas the Persons hereafter named, with
others, are willing at their own Expence to carry such Undertaking
into execution, but the same cannot be effected without the Authority
of Parliament: And whereas Three several Acts were passed in the
last Session of Parliament, called respectively "The Companies Clauses
Consolidation Act, 1845," "The Lands Clauses Consolidation Act,
1845,"
and " The Railways Clauses Consolidation Act, 1845 :" May
it therefore please Your Majesty that it may be enacted; and be it
enacted by the Queen's most Excellent Majesty, by and with the
Advice and Consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Com-

in this present Parliament assembled, and by the Authority of

porated with and the a Railways Clauses Consolidation Act, 1845," shall, in so far
this Act. as the same are not modified by or inconsistent with the Provisions
herein-after contained, be incorporated with and form Part of this
Act.
Short Title. II. And be it enacted, That in citing this Act in other Acts of
Parliament, and in legal Instruments and Pleadings, it shall be suifi-

III. And be it enacted, That Henry Thomas, Louis Vigurs, James
Wittil Lyon, Robert Frederic Gower, and all other Persons and Cor-
porations who have already subscribed or shall hereafter subscribe to
the Undertaking, and their Executors, Administrators, Successors, and
Assigns respectively, shall be united into a Company for the Purpose
of making and maintaining a Railway from the South Wales Railway
at or near the Town of Neath in the County of Glamorgan, to or
near the Town of Merthyr Tydfil in the same County, together with
Branch Railways therefrom to the Aberdare Railway and to Penderyn
in the said County, and also to certain Collieries and other Works or
Places herein-after mentioned, with proper Works and Conveniences
belonging thereto and connected therewith, according to the Provisions
of the said recited Acts and of this Act, and for other the Purposes
herein and in the said recited Acts contained; and for the Purposes
aforesaid such Company shall be incorporated by the Name of " The
Vale of Neath Railway Company," and by that Name shall be a Body
Corporate, with perpetual Succession, and shall have Power to purchase
and hold Lands for the Purposes of the Undertaking, within the
Restrictions herein and in the recited Acts contained.
IV. And be it enacted, That the Capital of the Company shall be
Five hundred and fifty thousand Pounds.
V. And be it enacted, That the said Capital shall.be divided into
Twenty-seven thousand five hundred Shares, and the Amount of each
Share shall be Twenty Pounds.
VI.
And be it enacted, That Ten Pounds per Share shall be the
greatest Amount of any One Call which the Company may make on
the Shareholders, and Three Months at the least shall be the Interval
between successive Calls.
VII.
And be it enacted, That no Shareholder of the Company shall
be liable for or charged with the Payment of any Debt or Demand due
from the Company beyond the Extent of his Share in. the Capital of
the Company then paid up.

VIII. And be it enacted, That it shall be lawful for the Directors
of the Company, until the Railway shall be completed and opened to
the Public, to pay Interest, at any Rate* not exceeding Four Pounds
per Centum per Annum in respect of the Deposits and Calls paid on
