The Air Navigation (Restriction of Flying) (Old Warden) Regulations 2020

The Secretary of State has decided that it is in the public interest to restrict flying in the vicinity of Old Warden Aerodrome, Bedfordshire, by reason of the intended holding of flying displays that are scheduled to take place there.

The Secretary of State makes these Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by article 239 of the Air Navigation Order 2016(1).

Citation and commencement

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Air Navigation (Restriction of Flying) (Old Warden) Regulations 2020 and come into force on 3rd May 2020.

Interpretation

2. In regulation 3(2) the times referred to are Co-ordinated Universal Time(2).

Restricted airspace

3.—(1) Subject to paragraph (3), and during the periods specified in paragraph (2), no aircraft is to fly below 3,500 feet above mean sea level within the area bounded by—

(a) the clockwise arc of a circle having a radius of 3 nautical miles whose centre is at 520512N 0001917W, between 520225N 0002056W, and 5202225N 0001553W, and

(b) a straight line joining 520258N and 520225N 0002056W.

(2) The periods referred to in paragraph (1) are—

(a) between 1245 hours and 1730 hours on 3rd May 2020, 7th June 2020, 5th July 2020, 2nd August 2020, 6th September 2020 and 4th October 2020,

(b) between 1545 hours and 2020 hours on 16th May 2020,

(c) between 1545 hours and 2055 hours on 20th June 2020,

(d) between 1545 hours and 2050 hours on 18th July 2020, and

(e) between 1745 hours and 1955 hours on 15th August 2020.

(3) Paragraph (1) does not apply to an aircraft flying with the permission of the flying display director at Old Warden Aerodrome.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations impose restrictions on flying in airspace in the vicinity of Old Warden Aerodrome, Buckinghamshire, during flying displays for the general public that are scheduled to take place there on 3rd and 16th May, 7th and 20th June, 5th and 18th July, 2nd and 15th August, 6th September and 4th October 2020.

A large number of aircraft will be involved in high energy manoeuvres during the displays and therefore the Civil Aviation Authority and the Department for Transport agree that flying should be restricted in the...
