An Act for the better Relief and Employment of the Poor and for the Enlargement of the Burial Grounds in the Parish of Saint Leonard Shoreditch in the County of Middlesex; and for other Purposes relating to the said Parish. [3d June 1813.] "^* ~TT THEREAS an Act was passed in the Fourteenth Year of the ^/%/ Reign of His present Majesty, intituled An Act for the better HG.3.C.29. T ? Relief and Employment of the Poor within the Parish of Saint Leonard Shoreditch in the County? of Middlesex, and for building a Workhouse, and for purchasing a Piece of Land for a Burial Ground for the Use of the said Parish: And whereas another Act was passed in the Fifteenth Year of the Reign of His present Majesty, intituled An Act to i5G.3.c.55. explain and amend an Act, passed in the Fourteenth Tear of His present Majesty's Reign, intituled.' An Act for the better Relief and Employment 1 of the Poor within the Parish of Saint Leonard Shoreditch in the County ' of Middlesex, and for building a Workhouse, and for purchasing a Piece of ' Land for a Burial Ground for the Use of the said Parish :' And whereas the Provisions of the said recited Act of the Fourteenth Year of the Reign of His present Majesty, as to building a Workhouse, and purchasing a Piece of Land for a Burial Ground for the Use of the said Parish, in Manner therein mentioned, have long since been carried into Execution: And whereas since the passing of the said Acts, the Number of the In habitants of the said Parish, and the Amount of the Sums collected for the Relief and Maintenance of. the Poor thereof have greatly increased, and Debts to a considerable Amount are now owing by the said Parish for [Loc. £sf Per."] 22 G Sums 1958 Former Acta repealed. All Conveyances executed and Annuities granted under the said Acts confirmed and secured. Names of Annuitants to be entered in a Book. 53GEORGII III. Cap. 112. Suras of Money borrowed and expended.under the Provisions of the said recited Acts, and for the Relief and Maintenance of the Poor of the said Parish : And whereas many of the Provisions of the said recited Acts are inadequate to the carrying into Execution the Purposes thereof in relation to the Relief, Maintenance, and Employment of the Poor of the said Parish, and the raising the Rates for that Purpose, and it is necessary that the same should be altered, amended, and enlarged : And whereas it would greatly benefit the said Parish, and facilitate the Execution of the Powers heretofore granted and now become necessary, if the same were included in One Act, and additional Powers were given for better assessing and collecting the Poor and other Parochial Rates within the said Parish: And whereas the Church Yard or Burial Ground of the said Parish, from the great Increase of the Inhabitants and Population of the said Parish, is not sufficiently capacious for the Interment of the Dead, and the said Church Yard or Burial Ground being incommoded in some Parts thereof by Ground and Houses abutting thereon, or contiguous thereto, it may be expedient to enable the Trustees of the Poor appointed by virtue of this Act, to purchase such Ground and Houses for the Purpose of enlarging and making the said Church Yard or Burial Ground more commodious, or to purchase other Ground for that Purpose: May it therefore please Your Majesty that it may be enacted j and be it enacted by the King's most Excellent Majesty, by and with the Consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in .this present Parliament assembled, and by Authority of the same, That from and after the passing of this Act the. said Two several recited Acts, and all the several Powers and Authorities, Matters and Things therein contained, shall be and the same is and are hereby repealed. JL Provided always, and be it further enacted, That all Assignments, Leases, Grants, Conveyances made or granted to or by any Person or Persons, Body or Bodies Politic, Corporate of Collegiate, or any other Persons whomsoever, acting by. virtue of, or on the Credit, or under the Authority of the said Two several recited Acts made in the Fourteenth and Fifteenth Years of the Reign of His present Majesty, shall be as good, valid, and effectual, to all Intents and Purposes whatsoever, as if the said Two several Acts had not been repealed j and all Bonds, Mortgages, Assignments, and Annuities, given or granted as a Security for any Monies lent of advanced on the Credit of the said Two several Acts, or either of them, in pursuance of and in compliance with the Powers therein contained, shall be charged, and they are hereby respectively charged upon the. Rates or Assessments herein directed to be made for the Purposes of this Act; and the Person or Persons from Time to Time entitled to the same respectively, shall have, receive, and enjOy, and by virtue of this. Act be entitled to have, receive, and enjoy, all Interest due and to grow due on such Bonds, Mortgages, and Assignments respectively, (until the same shall be paid off and discharged, as herein-afterprovided,) and all Interest due and to grow due on the said respective Annuities, out of the Rates and Assessments herein directed to be made, during the Term of the natural Lives,of the Persons for whose Lives such Annuities respectively were granted. III. Provided always, and be it enacted, That the Trustees of the Poor, to be appointed by virtue of this Act, shall and they are hereby re- 3 quired 53GEORGII III. Cap.U2, 1959 quired to provide a Book, in which shall be fairly written in Words at Length, the Names, proper Additions, and Places of Abode of all and every Person and Persons, who are possessed of or entitled to any Annuities chargeable upon the Rates directed to be made by the said recited Acts or either of them, as also the Sums to which such Person or Persons are respectively entitled, and the Names, Additions, and Places of Abode of the Persons for whose Lives such Annuities may be payable; and also an Account of all Monies which shall be paid to each of such Annuitants from Time to Time; and which Book shall be kept by the Clerk or. Clerks to the said Trustees; and also that it shall and may be lawful for the said respective Annuitants, and their respective Executors, Administrators, Assigns, and Agent or Agents, from Time to Time, and at all seasonable Times, to inspect the said Book or Books, or to take an Extract or Extracts therefrom, without Fee or Reward. IV. And be it further enacted, That it shall be lawful for every Person Annuities or Persons now entitled to such Annuities, granted to them by virtue of may be the said recited Acts, at any Time or Times, by Writing under his, her, transferred. or their Hand and Seal or Hands and Seals, to assign such Annuity or Annuities, or any Part thereof, or his, her, or their Interest therein, to any Person or Persons whomsoever, and so toties quoties, and a Memorandum or Entry of all such Assignments, and the Days whereon the same were brought to be so entered, shall be made in the said Book hereinbefore required to be kept by the Clerk or Clerks to the Trustees, to be appointed by virtue of this Act, for which Entry the Sum of Five Shillings shall be paid, and no more; and such Entry or Entries shall and may at all seasonable Times be inspected by any Persons interested therein; but no such Assignment shall be deemed good and effectual, until such Memorandum or Entry shall be made as before directed. V. And be it further enacted, That the same Fees shall be respectively Fees for In- paid to the said Parish, and to the Vicar, Clerk, and Sexton thereof, for terment in the Time being, for the burying in the Burial Grounds belonging to the qU d said Parish, as are expressed and directed, or mentioned or referred to, in continued. the Act of Parliament made and passed in the Eighth Year of the Reign of His late Majesty King George the Second, intituled An Act for rebuilding. the Parish Church of Saint Leonard Shoreditch in the County of Middlesex-, or in the Table of Fees made in pursuance thereof. VI. And be it further enacted, That each and every Rate and Assess- Arrears of ment made and assessed, and now due and payable, or to become due and former Rates payable, or ordered to'be collected and levied under and by virtue of the may be col- Authority of the said recited Acts of the Fourteenth and Fifteenth Years of lected; the Reign of His present Majesty, shall continue to be due and payable, and shall and may be collected and levied by such Ways and Means, and under such Restrictions and Regulations, as any Rates or Assessments directed to be made in pursuance of this Act are directed in and by this Act to be collected and levied, and shall be received and applied by the Trustees to be appointed by this Act, to and for the Purposes of this Act; and also that all Debts and Penalties incurred and due under and by vir- Debts and tue of the said Two several recited Acts, of the Fourteenth and Fifteenth Penalties Years of the Reign of His present Majesty, from any Persons whomsoever, recovered; shall and may be demanded and recovered from such Persons, and applied by 1960 and Contracts enforced.
