Act, 1933.
CHAPTER lxxxix.
An Act to empower the mayor aldermen and citizens
A.D.
1933.
of the city of Salford to execute street works and
to acquire lands for those and other purposes
to confer powers upon them of running trolley
vehicles to make various provisions and to
confer various powers with respect to the several
undertakings of the Corporation and in regard
to the health and finance and for the good
government of the city and for other purposes.

HEREAS the city of Salford (hereinafter referred
to as " the city ") is a municipal borough subject
to the Acts relating to municipal corporations and is a
county borough within the meaning of the Local
Government Act 1888 and the mayor aldermen and
citizens of the city (hereinafter referred to as " the
Corporation") are the urban sanitary authority for
the city:
And whereas it is expedient that the Corporation
should be empowered to execute the street works and
other works by this Act authorised and to acquire lands
for the purposes thereof and for other purposes:
And whereas under various Acts and Orders the
Corporation own or are lessees of and work tramways
in the city and in certain districts adjacent to the city
and it is expedient that they should be empowered to
provide and work trolley vehicles along the routes of

such tramways and along an additional route partly in
the city and partly in the city of Manchester and that
the provisions with reference to the abandonment of
such tramways and the further powers with reference to
the running of trolley vehicles contained in this Act
should be enacted and conferred :
And whereas owing to natural causes subsidences
have from time to time occurred in a part of the city
known as " the Cliff Higher Broughton " and it is appre-
hended that further subsidences will from time to time
occur which will affect or endanger the land described
or referred to in this Act and the houses thereon and it
is expedient that such powers as are contained in this
Act with reference to such land and houses should be
conferred upon the Corporation :
And whereas it is expedient that the powers and
provisions contained in this Act with reference to build-
ings in the city should be enacted and conferred:
And whereas it is expedient that further powers
should be conferred upon the Corporation with reference
to their electricity undertaking :
And whereas it is expedient that further and better
provision should be made for the health local government
and improvement of the city and that the powers of the
Corporation in regard thereto should be enlarged as by
this Act provided :
And whereas under and by virtue of the Local
Government and other Officers' Superannuation Act
1922 the Corporation have established a superannuation
fund for the payment thereout of superannuation
allowances to their officers and servants and it is
expedient that the provisions relating to the said fund
should be amended and extended as by this Act provided :
And whereas it is expedient that the provisions
with regard to the finances of the Corporation which are
contained in this Act should be made and that the
Corporation should be empowered to bosrow for the
various purposes of this Act:
And whereas it is expedient that the other provisions
contained in this Act should be made:
And whereas the purposes aforesaid cannot be
effected without the authority of Parliament:

And whereas estimates have been prepared by the A.D. 1933.
Corporation of the expense of the works and purposes
hereinafter mentioned and such estimates are as follows:

For the execution of works - - 46,400
For the purchase of lands - - - 29,260
And whereas the several works included in such
estimates are permanent works and it is expedient that
the cost thereof should be spread over a term of years :
And whereas plans and sections showing the lines
or situations of the works by this Act authorised and
plans showing the lands which the Corporation may
acquire under this Act and the lands liable to subsidence
in respect of which orders may be made by the Corpora-
tion under this Act and a book of reference to such
plans containing the names of the owners or reputed
owners lessees or reputed lessees and of the occupiers
of all such lands and describing the same have been
deposited with the town clerk of the city and with the
clerk of the county council of the administrative county
of Lancaster which plans sections and book of reference
are in this Act respectively referred to as the deposited
plans sections and book of reference:
And whereas in relation to the promotion of the Bill
for this Act the requirements of the Borough Funds
Acts 1872 and 1903 have been observed:
May it therefore please Your Majesty that it may
be enacted and be it enacted by the King's most Excellent
Majesty by and with the advice and consent of the
Lords Spiritual and Temporal and Commons in this
present Parliament assembled and by the authority of
the same as follows (that is to say):

This Act may be cited as the Salford Corporation Short title.
