An Acl for altering and enlarging the Powers of an
Ad, paffed in the Seventh Year of the Reign of
His prefent Majefty, intituled, An AEt'for the more
ejfe&ual draining the Lands lying in the Level of
Ancholme in the County of Lincoln, and, making
the River Ancholme navigable from the River Hum-
ber, at or near a Place called Ferraby Sluice, in
the County

^Lincoln ; after reciting that the Level of
Ancholme
in
the County of
Limoln%
extending from the River
Hnmber
to
Bifkop
Briggs,
containing many Thoufand Acres of Land, had been for feveral Years
drowned with Water, to the great Damage and Loft of the Inhabitants
and Owners of Lands within the faid Level, and that the draining of the
Lands lying in the faid Level, and making the River
Ancholme
navigable,
as therein mentioned, would be of great Utility
to.
the Publick, and tend
to the confiderable Benefit and Advantage of the Owners of Lands within
the laid Level j It
was
enafted, that the feveral Perfons therein named, and
their Succeffors, to be elefted as therein mentioned, fhould be and they
were thereby appointed Commiflioners for draining the faid Lands lying
in the faid Level of
Ancholme^
and for making the faid River Ancholme
navigable,

therein mentioned, and for putting the feveral Powers con-*
tained in the faid Aft into Execution ; and it was (amongft divers other
Powers and Provifions therein contained), further enafted, that the faid
Commiflioners, or any Five or more of them, fhould have the Direction
and Survey of all the private Works of Drainage within the faid Level of
u$nchdme\ and that for

better draining, preferving, and keeping dry
the Low Grounds and Carrs in the faid Level, the faid Commiflioners,
or any Five or more of them, fhould and might, and were -thereby fully
empowered to order, and caufe to be made and maintained, all fuch Works
as are in the faid Aft mentioned, within, upon, or through any of the
Lands or Grounds within the faid Level, or any Part
thereof,
and as
fhould be thought neceffary for accompUfhing the Drainage, and other
P^pofes by the.faid Aft intended;. and that it fhould and might be lawful
to and for the faid Commiflioners, or any Seven or more of them, and
they were thereby authorize and required to afiefs, tax, and charge all
ap4$very. the refpeftive Owners- &nd Occupiefs of,* andalfo all and An-
gular the Carrs and Low Grounds within tne Limits of the faid Level of

(^xeept as therein-after excepted)^ witb fuch equal yearly Rates and Taxes
as^td them fhould feem requifite and neceffary for the Purpofes of per-
feftiflg fuch Drainage, putfuant t& the Powers and Authorities in the
faid Aft, fo as the fame, did not exceed the Sum of Two Shillings and
Sixpeikean- Acre for £ very Acre, arid in fuch Proportion for any "lefs

made of all the feveral Lajids and Gjounds liable to be rated and taxed
by virtue of anctwithfr* t&e Meaning of the faid" Aft, and fuch Survey
fhould be reduced into Writing, and the Number of Acres,, Roods,, and
Perches belonging to each Proprietor within the faid Level, Jhould be
therein fpecified and described ; and that the faid Commiffioners, or any
Seven or more of them, fhould, in the Firft Place, and before any Works
^ere made for draining and improving the Lands thereby intended to be
drained and improved^ caufe the following Works
