An Act to authorize the Company of Proprietors
of the Regent's Canal to purchase the Hertford
Union Canal; and for other Purposes.

HEREAS by an Act of the Fifth Year of George the
Fourth, Chapter Forty-seven (Local), intituled An Act for 5G.4.e.xlvii.
making and maintaining a navigable Canal from the
River Lee Navigation in the Parish of Saint Mary Stratford Bow in
the County of Middlesex to join the Regent's Canal at or near a
Place called Old Ford Lock in the Parish of Saint Matthew Bethnal
Green in the
said.
County of Middlesex, Powers were conferred on
Sir George Duckett Baronet, his Heirs and Assigns, to make and
maintain a Canal, to be called " The Hertford Union Canal," for the
Navigation of Boats, Barges, and other Vessels, from the River Lee
Navigation to the Regent's Canal, with a Reservoir for Water on the
North Side of the Hertford Union Canal, and other Works and Con>-
veniences, and Powers for him and them to acquire Lands for the Pur-
poses of the Undertaking, and to regulate the Canal, and to take
Tonnage Rates on Goods in Vessels entering the Hertford
Union
Canal,
and Tolls on Horses, Mules, and Asses passing on the Towing Paths,
with other Powers and Provisions for the Purposes of and relating to
the Undertaking: And whereas the Hertford Union Canal, the Reser-
voir, and the Works and Conveniences connected therewith, were made
