The Parliamentary Constituencies (England) Order 1983

Whereas in pursuance of section 2(1) of the House of Commons (Redistribution of Seats) Act 1949(a) the Boundary Commission for England have submitted to the Secretary of State a report dated 1st February 1983, showing the constituencies into which they recommend, in accordance with the House of Commons (Redistribution of Seats) Acts 1949 and 1958(b), that England should be divided:

And whereas the Secretary of State has laid that report before Parliament together with the draft of this Order in Council to give effect to the recommendations contained in the report and each House of Parliament has by resolution approved the said draft:

Now, therefore, Her Majesty, in pursuance of section 3 of the House of Commons (Redistribution of Seats) Act 1949, is pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:—

1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Parliamentary Constituencies (England) Order 1983.

(2) This Order shall come into operation on the fourteenth day after the day on which it is made:

Provided that the coming into operation of this Order shall not affect—

(a) 1949 c. 66.

(b) 1958 c. 26.

(a) any parliamentary election until a proclamation is issued by Her Majesty summoning a new Parliament; or

(b) the constitution of the House of Commons until the dissolution of the Parliament in being at the coming into operation of this Order.

2. For all the constituencies in England (which are described in Schedule 1 to the Representation of the People Act 1948(a) or in Orders made under the House of Commons (Redistribution of Seats) Act 1949, as the case may be) there shall be substituted the constituencies which are named on the left-hand side of the Schedule to this Order and comprise the areas set out on the right-hand side, which areas are local government areas as they existed on 1st February 1983, except where otherwise stated.

3. Each electoral registration officer shall make such re-arrangement or adaptation of the registers of parliamentary electors as may be necessary to give effect to this Order.

                 Easton, Eastville, Hengrove, Lawrence Hill
                 and Stockwood.
                Bristol North West (i) The following wards of the City of Bristol
                 which are constituted by the City of Bristol
                 (Electoral Arrangements) Order 1980(a) and
                 which come into operation on 5th May 1983,
                 namely, Avonmouth, Henbury, Horfield,
                 Kingsweston, Lockleaze, Southmead and
                 Westbury-on-Trym; and
                 (ii) the following wards of the District of
                 Northavon, namely, Filton Charborough, Fil-
                 ton Conygre, Filton Northville, Stoke Gifford
                 North and Stoke Gifford South.
                Bristol South The following wards of the City of Bristol,
                 which are constituted by the City of Bristol
                 (Electoral Arrangements) Order 1980 and
                 which come into operation on 5th May 1983,
                 namely, Bedminster, Bishopsworth, Filwood,
                 Hartcliffe, Knowle, Southville, Whitchurch
                 Park and Windmill Hill.
                Bristol West The following wards of the City of Bristol
                 which are constituted by the City of Bristol
                 (Electoral Arrangements) Order 1980 and
                 which come into operation on 5th May 1983,

                 Bedfordshire which are constituted by the

                 Arrangements) Order 1979 and which come
                 into operation on 5th May 1983, namely,
                 Brickhill, Bromham, Carlton, Castle,
                 Cauldwell, Clapham, De Parys, Felmersham,
                 Goldington, Harpur, Harrold, Kingsbrook,
                 Newnham, Oakley, Putnoe, Queens Park,
                 Renhold, Riseley, Roxton and Sharnbrook.
                North Luton (i) The following wards of the Borough of
                 Luton, namely, Bramingham, Challney, Ick-
                 nield, Leagrave, Lewsey, Limbury and Sun-
                 don Park;

                 and Maidenhead (Electoral Arrangements)
                 Order 1980(a) and which come into operation
                 on 5th May 1983, namely, Datchet, Horton
                 and Wraysbury, Old Windsor, Sunningdale
                 and South Ascot and Sunninghill.
                Newbury The following wards of the District of
                 Newbury which are constituted by the Dis-
                 trict of Newbury (Electoral Arrangements)
