Docks, to be
called "the North
Metropolitan
Railway;" and
for other Purposes. [30th July 1866.]
W
HEREAS the Construction of Railways between the Great
Western
Railway near
Southall
and the River Thames near
the
Victoria
Docks, and other Works in connexion there-
with, wrould be of great public and local Advantage: And whereas
Plans and Sections of the said Railways showing the Lines and
Levels
thereof,
and describing the Lands proposed to be acquired for
the Purposes of this Act, and a Book of Reference to such Plans,
have been deposited with the Clerks of the Peace for the Counties of
Middlesex,
Essex,
and Kent respectively: And whereas it is expedient
that the Company by this Act incorporated on the one hand, and the
London and Saint Katharine Docks Company and the
Victoria
Dock
Company, or either of them, on the other hand, should be empowered
to enter into Contracts and Agreements in the Manner herein-after
provided: And whereas it is expedient to provide for the Use by the
Company by this Act incorporated, and other Companies or Persons
using their Railway, of the Portions of the Midland and South-

tively herein-after described: And whereas the Persons herein-after
named, with others, are willing at their own Expense to carry the
Undertaking by this Act authorized into execution; but the same
cannot be effected without the Authority of Parliament: May it there-
fore please Your Majesty that it
may be
enacted; and
be
it enacted by the
Queen's most Excellent Majesty, by and with the Advice and Consent
of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present
Parliament assembled, and by the Authority of the same, as follows:
Short
Title.
1. This Act may be cited for all Purposes as " The North
Metro-
politan Railway Act, 1866."

are (except where expressly varied by this Act) incorporated
with and form Part of this Act.
Interpreta- 3. In this Act the several Words and Expressions to which
Terms. Meanings are assigned by the Acts wholly or partially incorporated
herewith shall have the same respective Meanings, unless there be
something in the Subject or Context repugnant to such Construction:
The Expression " the Company " shall mean the Company incor-
porated by this Act;
The Expression " the Railways " or " the Undertaking
"
shall mean
the Railways or Undertaking by this Act authorized, or any
Part
thereof;
and
The Expression " Superior Courts" or " Court of competent Juris-
diction," or any other like Expression in this Act or any Act
wholly or partially incorporated herewith, shall be read and have
Effect as if the Debt or Demand with respect to which the
Expression is used were a common Simple Contract Debt, and
not a Debt or Demand created by Statute.

4. In construing in connexion with this Act "The Railways
"PariX Clauses Consolidation Act, 1845," the Term " Parish Clerks" in that
Clerks." Act shall, as regards those Parishes or Extra-parochial Places in which
by the Standing Orders of each House of Parliament Plans, Sections,
and other Documents are now required to be deposited with the
Vestry Clerk of the Parish or with the Clerk of the District Board of
Works for the District in which the Parish or Extra-parochial Place is
included, mean in the First Case the Vestry Clerks of those Parishes,
and in the Second Case the Clerks of those District Boards.

All Claims for Compensation made upon the Company under
Claims
for
the 68th Section of " The Lands Clauses Consolidation Act" 1845 " Compensa-
and the 6th Section of " The Railways Clauses Consolidation Act, t{°^7
1845,"
or either of them, shall, if the Person claiming to be entitled to
Tenants
to
Compensation has no greater Interest than as Tenant for a Year, or be sett.led as
from Year to Year, in the Lands or Houses in respect of which'the bylStkS
Compensation is claimed, be determined in manner provided by the 121 of
121st Section of " The Lands Clauses Consolidation Act, 1845." c.?89 ViCt

Brownrigg C.B., Subscribers to the Undertaking,
and all other Persons and Corporations who have already subscribed
or shall hereafter subscribe to the Undertaking, and their Executors,
Administrators, Successors, and Assigns respectively, shall be united
into a Company for the Purpose of making and maintaining the Rail-
way, and for other the Purposes, of this Act, and for those Purposes
shall be incorporated by the Name of "The North Metropolitan
Railway Company," and by that Name shall be a Body Corporate,
with perpetual Succession and a Common Seal, and with Power to
purchase, take, hold, and dispose of Lands and other Property for the
Purposes of this Act.
7.
Subject to the Provisions of this Act, the Company may make
Power
to
and maintain in the Lines and according to the Levels shown on the ma^e
deposited Plans and Sections the Railways herein-after described, according
with all proper Stations, Approaches, Sidings, Works, and Con- to deposited
veniences connected therewith, and may enter upon, take, and use
such of the Lands delineated on the said Plans and described in the
deposited Books of Reference as may be required for that Purpose.
The Railways herein-before referred to and authorized by this Act
are,
Railway No. 1. (Main Line), Twenty-two Miles and Three and
Three Quarters Furlongs or thereabouts in Length, commencing
in the Precinct or Chapelry of Norwood in the District of
Uxbridge
in the County of
Middlesex in
a Field near to and North
of the Booking Office of the Southall Station of the Great
Western Railway, and terminating in the Parish of
Woolwich
in the County of Kent on the North Bank of the River Thames
at Gallions Beach:

2. (Great
Western
Junction), One and a Half Furlongs
or thereabouts in Length, situate wholly in the Precinct or
Chapelry of
Norwood
in the District of
Uxbridge
in the County
of
Middlesex,
commencing by a Junction with the
Great
Western
Railway, and terminating by a Junction with Railway No. 1. by
