An Act to empower the North London Railway
Company to construct a Railway from Liverpool
Street in the City of
London
to join their existing
Railway at Kingsland; and for other Purposes.

W
HEREAS the Construction of a Railway between the North
London Railway and
Liverpool
Street in the City of London,
together with a Terminal Station at Liveiyool Street, would
be of great Advantage to the Inhabitants of the Metropolis and the
Public: And whereas Plans and Sections showing the Line and Levels of
the said Railway, and showing the Lands and Houses which may be re-
quired under the Authority of this Act, with a Book of Reference to such
Plans containing the Names of the Owners or reputed Owners, Lessees or
reputed Lessees, and Occupiers of the said Lands and Houses, have been
deposited with the several Clerks of the Peace for the City of London and
County of
Middlesex:
And whereas the North London Railway Company
are willing to construct the said proposed Line of Railway at their own
Expense, if empowered so to do : And whereas the London and North-
western
Railway Company are the Holders of a considerable Number of
Shares in the Undertaking of the North London Railway, and it is
expedient that Provision be made for the Appropriation to the sole and

exclusive Use of that Company, and for vesting absolutely in them, a
Part of the proposed Terminal Station near Liverpool Street, and that
the North London Railway Company and the London and
North-western
Railway Company be empowered to enter into Arrangements and
Agreements in reference thereto and to the Undertaking of the North
London Railway: And whereas it is expedient that the North London
Railway Company and the London and
North-western
Railway Company
respectively should be empowered to raise and apply further Capital for
the Construction of the said Railway and Station, and the Works con-
nected therewith: And whereas there are no Preference or guaranteed
Shares in the Capital of the North London Railway Company: And
whereas the several Objects and Purposes of this Act cannot be accom-
plished without the Authority of Parliament: May it therefore please
Your Majesty that it may be enacted ; and be it enacted by the Queen's
most Excellent Majesty, by and with "the Advice and Consent of the
Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament
assembled, and by the Authority of the same, as follows; (that is
to say,)

Title.
1. In citing this Act for all Purposes it shall be sufficient to use the
Expression "The North London Railway (City Branch) Act,
1861."

Com- 3. Throughout this Act the Expression " the Company " shall be
pany- taken to mean the North London Railway Company.
Definition of 4. In construing, in connexion with this Act, " The Railways Clauses
^pJis Consolidation Act, 1845," the Term " Parish Clerks" in that Act shall,
Clerks." as regards those Parishes or Extra-parochial Places in which, by the
Standing Orders of each House of Parliament, Plans, Sections, and other
Documents are now required to be deposited with the Vestry Clerk of
the Parish, or with the Clerk of the District Board of Works for the
District in which the Parish or Extra-parochial Place is included, mean
in the First Case the Vestry Clerks of those Parishes, and in the Second
Case the Clerks of those District Boards.
Power to 5. Subject to the Provisions in this Act and the Acts incorporated
take
Lands,
therewith, the Company may enter upon and take and use all or any
of the Lands and Houses defined on the Plans and described in the Book
of Reference deposited as in this Act mentioned.
Power to 6. Subject to the Provisions in this Act and the Acts incorporated
make Rail- herewith, the Company may make and maintain in the Line, and
