the

the

London Passenger Transport Board (in this Act called
the Board
”)
were established
:
And whereas it is the duty
of
the Board (inter alia)
so
to
exercise their powers under the Act of
1933
as
to secure
the
provision of an adequate and properly
co-ordirrated system
of
passenger transport
for
the
London Passenger Transport Area and
for
that purpose
to take from time
to
time such steps
as
they consider
necessary for extending
and
improving tlie facilities for
passenger transport in that area in such manner as to
provide most efficiently aid conveniently
for
the needs
thereof:
And whereas the
Board
are the owners of
an
extensive system of tramways light railways and trolley
vehicles in tlie counties
of
London Middlesex Surrey
Essex Hertford acd Kent within the London Passenger
Transport Area
:
And whereas it is expedient that the Board should
be
authorised to rim trolley vehicles upon the routes
described in this Act along certain streets and roads

in which certain of their tramways and light railways

that the provisioiis contained in
this
Act with respect
thereto should be enacted
:
And whereas it
is
expedient that the Board should be
authorised to make the new works described in this Act
:
And whereas it is expedient
that
the Board should
be authorised to acquire and use lands for the purposes
of the said new works and
for
the other purposes
of their undertaking
:
And whereas it is expedient that the other powers
contained in this Act should be conferred on the Board
and that the other provisions contained in this

should be enacted:
And whereas plans showing the lands which may
be taken
or
used compulsorily
for
the purposes or under
the powers of this Act such plans showing the lines
of the said new works and sections showing the levels
of such works with
a
book of reference to such plans
containing the names of the owners and lessees
or
reputed owners and lessees and of the occupiers
of
the
said lands were duly deposited with the respective
clerks of the county councils
of
the administrative
counties of London Middlesex Surrey Essex Hertford
and Buckingham and with the town clerk
of
$he county
borough of West Ham and such plans sections and
book
of
reference are respectively referred to in this
Act
as
the deposited plans sections and
book
of
reference
:
And whereas the objects
of
this Act cannot be
attained without the authority
of
Parliament
:
May
it
therefore please Your Majesty that
it
may
be enacted and be
it
enacted by the King’s
most
Excellent Majesty by and with the advice and consent
of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal and Commons
in this present Parliament assembled and by the
authority
of
the same as follows
