CHAPTER cxxix.
An Act for conferring further Powers upon the London and A.D. 1882.
North-western Eailway Company in connexion with their
own Undertaking and upon that Company and the Lanca-
shire and Yorkshire Railway Company and the Great
Western Railway Company in .respect of other Under-
takings in which they are jointly interested and for other
purposes. " [12th July 1882.]

HEREAS it is expedient that the London and North-western.
Railway Company (in this Act called the Company) should
he empowered to make the new railways and the widening (Company's
alteration and improvement of their existing railway and to make

the new and alter and stop up the existing roads streets and
footpaths and to execute the other works and exercise the other
powers in this Act respectively mentioned and to acquire for the
purposes of the works by this Act authorised and for the general
purposes of their undertaking the lands in this Act also mentioned
and that the powers for the purchase of lands for and for the con-
struction of the Llanelly Station Eailway authorised by the
London and North-western Railway (New Lines and Additional 39.
Powers) Act 1876 should be revived and extended as in this Act c' clxxx-
provided:
And whereas it is expedient that the Company and the Lanca- (Company
shire and Yorkshire Railway Company should be empowered to

make the new junction at Bootle herein-after described for the Yorkshire
purpose of connecting the Bootle Extension Railway of the Company.)
Company with the Liverpool and Southport Railway of the Lan-
cashire and Yorkshire Railway Company and should also be
empowered to make the Huddcrsfield second tunnel herein-after
described in connexion with the railway and station at Hudders-
field in which they are jointly interested :

And whereas the Company and the Great Western Railway
Company are jointly possessed of the Birkenhead Railway and
it is expedient that those companies should he empowered in
connexion with that railway to make the new railways and execute
the other works and exeroise the other powers herein-after described
in that
behalf:
And whereas plans and sections showing the respective lines
and levels of the railways and other works by this Act authorised
and of the Llanelly Station Railway and plans of the lands by this
Act authorised to be acquired and appropriated and also books of
reference containing the names of the owners and lessees or reputed
owners and lessees and of the occupiers of the lands required or
which may be taken for the purposes or under the powers of this
Act were duly deposited with the clerks of the peace for the several
counties within which those works will be constructed and those
lands are situate which plans sections and books of reference are in
this Act respectively referred to as the deposited plans sections and
books of reference:
And whereas it is expedient that further powers should be
conferred upon the Company with respect to the sale lease
or other disposal of lands acquired by them which are not or
eventually may not be required for the purposes of their under-
taking :
And whereas it is expedient that further provision should be
made with respect to the rates or charges which the Company may
demand in respect of passengers conveyed upon their Carnarvonshire
Railway:
And whereas it is expedient that the Company and the Shrop-
shire Union Railways and Canal Company or one of them should
be empowered to sell certain stock in the last-named Company
herein-after referred to and to make agreements with reference
thereto as herein-after provided:
And whereas under the authority of the London and Forth-
western Railway (Holyhead Old Harbour) Act 1873 as amended
by the London and North-western Railway (New Lines and
Additional Powers) Act 1876 the Company are now entitled to
the sole and exclusive use enjoyment and occupation for the
purposes of their traffic of every description of the portion of the
Old Harbour at Holyhead described or referred to in that behalf
in section 85 of the last-mentioned Act and it is expedient that
they should be empowered to appoint harbour dock and pier-
masters and to make byelaws with reference thereto :

And whereas it is expedient that further provision should he A.D. 1882.
made with respect to the contribution by the Company towards (Company's

of persons in the service either of the Company alone or of the
Company and other companies jointly or of the Dundalk Newry
and Greenore Railway Company as herein-after provided in that
behalf:
And whereas it is expedient that further powers should be con- (Company

with respect to lands belonging to them in connexion with their Railway

And whereas the Company and the Midland Railway Company (Company

powers should be granted to the Company as are herein-after
mentioned:
And whereas the purposes of this Act cannot be effected without
the authority of Parliament:
May it therefore please your Majesty that it may be enacted
and be it enacted by the Queen's most Excellent Majesty by and
with the advice and consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal
and Commons in this present Parliament assembled and by the
authority of the same as follows (that is to say):

This Act may be cited for all purposes as the London and Short title.
