An Act for more effectually repairing, maintaining,
and improving certain Roads leading to and from
the City of Lincoln. [21st June 1841.]
HEREAS an Act was passed in the Twenty-ninth Year of
the Reign of His Majesty King George the Second, inti-
tuled An Act for repairing and widening the Roads from

c.84.
the North End o/'Dunsby Lane to the South-ivest Corner o/'Riseholme
Hedge, and to Carholme Gate, Drinsey Nook, and Dunham and
Littleburgh Ferries, and from the North End of Waddington Field
and the Bridge over the River Witham at Bracebridge to the City of
Lincoln, and from the Gate at the Foot o/^Canwick Hill to the Great
Bar Gates of the said City ; and for enforcing the Performance of
Statute Work upon the Highways communicating with the said Roads
to a certain Distance from the said Roads : And whereas another Act
was passed in the Seventeenth Year of the Reign of His Majesty King
George the Third, intituled An Act for enlarging the Term and 17G.3.C.109.
Powers of an Act made in the Twenty-ninth Year of the Reign of King

for repairing and widening certain Roads leading
to and from the City of Lincoln, and for repairing and widening the
Roads from the Termination of the present Turnpike Road at the Foot
o/"Bracebridge Bridge, over the said Bridge Westward, to the Extre-
mity of the County of Lincoln near to a Place called Potter Hill, and

from the Termination of the present Turnpike Road at the Foot of
Can wick Hill Southward to a Windmill at the Top of the said Hill;
And whereas another Act was passed in the Thirty-seventh Year of
37G.3.C.168. His said Majesty King George the Third, intituled An Act for con-
tinuing the Term and altering and enlarging the Powers'of Two Acts
passed in the Twenty-ninth Year of the Reign of His late Majesty King
George the Second and in the Seventeenth Year of the Reign of His
present Majesty\ for repairing and widening certain Roads leading to
and fr&m the City of Lincoln, and for repairing and widening the
Roads from the Termination of the present Turnpike Moad at the Foot
o/'Bracebridge Bridge, over the said Bridge Westward, to the Extre-
mity of the County of Lincoln near a Place called Potter Hill, and
from the Termination of the present Turnpike Road at the Foot of
Canwick Hill Southward to a Windmill at the Top of the said Hill:
And whereas another Act was passed in the Fifty-fourth Year of the

c.83. Reign of His said Majesty King George the Third, intituled An Act
for continuing and amending an Act of His late Majesty, and Two
Acts of His present Majesty, for repairing certain Roads leading to
and from the City of Lincoln, and other Roads therein mentioned:
And whereas under or by virtue of the said recited Act of the Thirty-
seventh Year of the Reign of His said late Majesty King George the
Third the said Roads mentioned in the said recited Acts were divided
into Two Districts, one whereof was thereby named the North-west
Division or District, and the other the South-east and South-west
Division or District: And whereas considerable Sums of Money have
from Time to Time been advanced upon the Credit of the Tolls
authorized to be taken bv the said several recited Acts, or some or
one of them, Part of which Money still remains owing, together with
an Arrear of Interest thereon : And whereas it would be of great
public Advantage if so much and such Part of the present Highway
leading from the said City of Lincoln to the Town of Grantham in the
same County as lies between the Termination of the existing Turn-
pike Road at the North End of Waddington Field in the Parish of
Waddington in the same County and the Parish of Harmst'on in the
same County, and also so much and such Part of the present High-
way Leading from the said City of Lincoln to the Town of Brans ton
in the Parish of Branston in the same County as lies between a Place
where a Windmill formerly stood at the Top of Canwick Hill afore-
said and a House (being the first House) at the Northern Entrance
into the Town of Branston aforesaid, now in the Occupation of Wil-
liam Ashley, were respectively made Turnpike, and made Part and
Parcel of the Roads comprised in this Act; and also if so much of
the existing Road leading from the said City of Lincoln to the Town
of Sleqford in the said County of Lincoln as passes over a Hill called
Cross o'Cliffe Hill, in the Parish of Bracebridge in the said County of
Lincoln* was diverted, whereby the present inconvenient Road over the
said Cross o'Cliffe Hill will be avoided and become unnecessary; and
also if a new Road, commencing at or near the Gate at the Foot of
Canwick Hill aforesaid to or into a certain public Highway called
Washingborough Lane, in the County of Lincoln, another new Road,
commencing at the said Gate at the Foot of Canwick Hill aforesaid,
to a Bridge called Saint Mary's Bridge, in the Parish of Saint Mary-
le-Wigford in the City of Lincoln, and another new Road, com-
