An Act to amend the Highbridge Markets and
Gas Act; and for other Purposes.

HEREAS by " The Highbridge Markets and Gas Act, 23&24Vict.
I860,
(herein-after called " the recited Act") a Company c-clxxxix-
(herein-after called " the Market Company ") was incor-
porated for providing and constructing Markets, Market Places,
and Slaughter-houses, with all necessary Conveniences, within the
Parishes of Burnham and Huntspill in the County of Somerset,
and a Company (herein-after called " the Gas Company") was
also incorporated for supplying and lighting with Gas the Town or
Hamlet of Highbridge and the Parishes and Places adjacent, all in
the County of Somerset: And whereas the Market Company have,
in pursuance of the Powers of the said Act, acquired certain Lands
for the Purposes of the said Market: And whereas Markets and
Fairs for the Sale of Meat, Poultry, Fish, Vegetables, and other
Commodities, are now held partly in the Streets and public Thorough-
fares of Burnham and Huntspill, to the Obstruction of the Public
and the Inconvenience of Passengers through and near the same,
and it would be advantageous to the Inhabitants of the said Parishes
and of the Neighbourhood thereof if the holding of Markets and
Fairs for the Sale of those Articles in the Streets and other Places
were discontinued: And whereas it is expedient that the Powers and
