The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and the Secretary of State acting jointly, in exercise of the powers conferred upon them by sections 7 and 29 of the Agriculture (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1963(a) and of all other powers enabling them in that behalf, hereby make the following regulations:—

1. These regulations, which may be cited as the Farmers' Machinery Syndicate Buildings (Standard Costs) Regulations 1963, shall apply throughout the United Kingdom and shall come into operation on 1st August 1963.

2.—(1) In these regulations, unless the context otherwise requires:—

"appropriate Minister" means, in relation to Scotland, the Secretary of State, and in relation to the remainder of the United Kingdom, the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food;

"approved" means approved by the appropriate Minister;

"of framed construction" means, in relation to a building, constructed in such a manner that the roof is supported on stanchions, pillars or posts independently of the walls;

"of traditional construction" means, in relation to a building, constructed in such a manner that the roof is supported on load-bearing walls;

"work" means a work of a class specified in column 1 of Part I of Schedule 1 to these regulations which is carried out in accordance with—

(a) the requirements set out in relation to that class of work in column 2 of that Part of that Schedule, and

(b) such of the general specifications set out in Schedule 2 to these regulations as relate to that work or the materials used in carrying it out.

(2) In these regulations, any work referred to by a number means the work so numbered in Part I of Schedule 1 to these regulations; and, in relation to any such work, "requirements" means the requirements there set out as respects that work.

(3) The Interpretation Act 1889(b), shall apply to the interpretation of these regulations as it applies to the interpretation of an Act of Parliament.

3. The cost of any work shall, at the option of the applicant for a grant under section 6 of the Agriculture (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1963, be taken to be an amount calculated at the appropriate rate or rates specified

(a) 1963 c. 11.

(b) 52 & 53 Vict. c. 63.

in respect of that work in column 3 of Part I of Schedule 1 to these regulations:

Provided that the amount so calculated shall, in any of the circumstances referred to in Part II of Schedule 1 to these regulations, be varied in accordance with the provisions there set out relating to the circumstances.

SCHEDULE 1

PART I

Where any rate set out in this Part of this Schedule in respect of any work is a rate per unit of measurement, any fraction of a unit shall be disregarded for the purpose of calculating the cost of that work.

In this Part of this Schedule the expression "floor area" means—

(a) in relation to work 4, the floor area between the outside edges of the stanchions;

(b) save as aforesaid, in relation to a building, the internal floor area.

                 approved design or, in
                 approved cases, of
                 round wood.
                 (iv) precast reinforced
                 concrete, the frame
                 shall be constructed
                 in accordance with an
                 approved design.
                 (b) The frame may be
                 constructed partly of one
                 and partly of another of
                 the aforementioned
                 materials in accordance
                 with an approved design.
                 (c) Roof principals and purlins
                 shall be included in the
                 design and shall be of
                 steel, concrete, wood or
                 aluminium alloy spaced at
                 distances appropriate to
                 the roof covering material
                 used.
                 (d) The gable ends shall be
                 sheeted down to eaves level
                 with galvanised steel,
                 asbestos cement or other
                 approved material.
                 5. Store. (a) The building shall be of Per square foot of floor
                 traditional or framed area
                 construction and shall have (a) for the first
                 a minimum height of 8′ 0″ 150 square feet 1 5 0
                 to the eaves. (b) for the next
