HEREAS
the
East India
Docks at
Blackwall
were made
for
the
Accommodation of the Shipping belonging
to
the
East
India
W
Company, by virtue of an Act passed in the Forty-third Year
of
the Reign
of
King
George
the Third, intituled
An
Act
for
the further

Shipping in the said
Port
:
And whereas the Powers
of
the said Act were enlarged by Acts
passed in the Forty-sixth and Fifty-fourth Years of the Reign
of
King
George
the Third
:
And whereas an Act was passed in the Ninth Year
of
the
Reign
of
King
George
the Fourth, intituled
An
Act
to

whereby the said Three first-mentioned Acts were
re-
pealed
:
And whereas,
by
virtue
of
the said Acts, certain Persons, their
Successors, Executors, Administrators, and Assigns, were united into a
Company
of
Proprietors
by
the Style and Firm
of
''
The
East India
Dock Company," and the said Company have raised and contributed

among themselves a Capital or Joint Stock, consisting of Sums of Money
amounting
to
the Sum

Four hundred and ninety-eight thousand
six hundred and-4ty-seven Pounds lwelve Shillings and Nine-
pence, and with or out
of
the same have made Two Docks at
Blackwall
in the County of
Middlesex,
called respectively an Inner
or
Import Dock,
and an Outer or Export Dock, with Quays and Wharfs and Warehouses
on the Sides thereof and connected therewith, and an Entrance Bxin and
Locks and Entrances conimunicating therewith
;
and by the said last-
mentioned Act the said Company were empowered
to
raise any further
Sum
of
Money not exceeding the Sum of Three hundred thousand
Pounds, either by increasing their Capital and by Contribution amongst
themselves, or
by
the Admission
of
any new Subscriber or Subscribers,
or
by borrowing the same at Interest in manner therein mentioned
;
and
by the said last-mentioned Act the Quays and Wharfs which have been
built within or along the Sides of the said Inner and Outer Docks were
declared to be legal Quays and Wharfs for the landing and re-landing,
discharging, lading, and shipping
of
any Goods, Merchandize, and Things
whatsoever within the Port
of
London
:
And whereas, in pursuance of
Provisions for that Purpose contained in the said last-mentioned Act,
Goods,
Wares, and Merchandize belonging
to
the
East
India
Conipany,
or consigned for Sale at the
India
House,
which were landed at the said
Quays and Wharfs, were conveyed in covered Carts, Waggons, and
Caravans, provided by the
East India
Company, from the said Docks to
the Warehouses of the
East India
Company
:
And whereas in consequence
of the
East India
Company having no longer any Shipping or Trade
it
is
expedient that Accommodation should be provided for the warehousing
of
Goods, Wares, and Merchandize which
may
be landed from other
Ships or Vessels in the said Docks: And whereas the Warehouses at
the said Docks are not
of
sufficient Extent for holding the Goods, Wares,
and Merchandize which might be landed at the said Docks, and
it
would
be advantageous to the Merchants and other Persons who deal in Gcods,
Wares, and Merchandize the Produce
of
the
East Indies
if the same
were conveyed to and might be inspected at Warehouses in the
City
of
London,
in
like Manner as such Goods, Wares, and Merchandize have
been accustomed to be conveyed to and inspected at the Warehouses
of
the
East India
Company
:
And whereas
it
is expedient that the said
East
lndia
Dock Company should be empowered
to
purchase Warehouses in
the
City
of
London
to and in which Goods, Wares, and Merchandize
landed in the said Docks or in other Docks in the Port of
London
may
be conveyed and deposited, and that they should be enabled to itnprove the
said
East India
Docks, and that the Powers
of
the said last-mentioned Act
should be amended and enlarged in other respects: May
it
therefore
please Your Majesty that it may be enacted
;
and be
it
enacted by the
King's most excellent Majesty, by and with the Advice and Consent of
the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Par-

Clauses, Matters, and Things contained in the herein-before recited Act

Fourth (except such of them or such Parts thereof respectively as are
hereby repealed, altered,
or
otherwise provided for) shall extend and be
construed
to
extend
to
this present Act, and shall operate and be in
force in respect
to
the
Purposes
thereof as
fully
and effectually,
