HEREAS
an
Act
was
passed in the Thirty-fourth Year
of
the
Reign
of
His
late Majesty King
George
the Third, intituled
An Act
for
altering, repairing, and widening
the
Road from
346.3.

in the County
of
Durham,
to
Alstori
in

of
Cumber-
land,
and from
Alston
aforesaid
by
the
Dyke
to
Burnstones

the

of
Northunlberland

And whereas another Act

the Reign

And whereas the several Turnpike Roads in the said several Acts
described are insufficient for the increased Population and Trade
of
that
Pqrt
of
the Country through
or
near
which the said Roads are situate,
and
it
wpuld be very advantageous
to
the Public
if
the Line of the said
Rwds
was
in many Places altered and extended, and the Whole of the
said
soads, together with such new Roads and Branch Roads as shall
under the Authority of this Act be made, placed under the Controul,
Superintendance, and Direction of the Trustees herein-after mentioned
:
And whereas it would be attended with much Convenience
to
the Public
if
Power was given to vary and alter the Line of certain Parts of the said
Turnpike Roads
;
videlicet,
a Part
of
the said
first
mentioned Turnpike
Road at a Place called
Holme Foot,
by carrying the same on the North
Side of the present Line of the said Road through Lands belonging to
Thomas Dickinson,
the Representatives of
Roger 74lahon
and
Jacob Wilson,
situated in the Parish
of
Afston
in the County
of Cumberland,
and thence
returning into the said Turnpike Road at or near
a
Place called
Nentsberry
Bridge,
and another Part thereof at a Place called
Town
Green,
on the
West
Side
of
the present Line of the said Turnpike Road, by carrying
the same through Lands belonging
to
Joseph Nixon
and
Thomas Dickinson
in the Parish
of Knarsdale
in the County
of
Northumberland,
and thence
returning into the said Turnpike Road
at
or near
Burnstones
aforesaid,
and Part of the last-mentioned Turnpike Road,
videlicet,
the Turnpike
Road from
Summerrod's Bar
to and through
AlJton
aforesaid, at a Place
called
Parmontley Bank,
on the South Side
of
the present Line of the said
Road,
by
carrying the same through Lands belonging
to
William Ord
Esquire, in the Parish
of
Whi$eld
in the said County
of
Northumberland,
and thence returning into
the
last-mentioned Turnpike Road
at
or near
the South-west Part
of
WhiffEeld Moor
or
Common;
one other Part
of
the last-mentioned Turnpike Road at a Place called
The
High
Part
of
Clargill Bank,
in the Parish of
Alston
in the County of
Cumberland,
also
on
the
South Side of the present Line of the last-mentioned Turnpike
Road, by carrying the
same
through Lands belonging to the Represen-
tatives of
George Mowbray
deceased, the Representatives of
John
Errington
deceased,
ChriJtopher Blackest
Esquire and Partners,
Thomas Todd,
Wilc
Iiam Wilson, John Carrick,
and
Antbony Wright,
all in the Parish
of
Ahton
in
the County
of
Cumberiand,
and thence returning into the said last-
mentioned Turnpike Road
;
and one other Part
of
the said last-mentioned
Turnpike Road at a Place called
Newshield,
in the said Parish
of
Afsion
in the said County of
Cumberland,
on the North Side
of
the present Line
of
the last-mentioned Turnpike Road, by carrying the same through
Lands belonging
to
John Friend
and the Commissioners and Governors
of
Greenwich Hospital,
in the said Parish of
AIston
in the said County
of
Cumberland,
and thence returning into the last-mentioned Turnpike Road
;
and
also
to make, repair, and maintain the several
Roads
and Branch
Roads hereafter mentioned
;
videlicet,
a Road from the Termination
of
the present Turnpike Road from
Burtryfird
to
and through
Alston,
and
from
Alston
by the
Dyke
to
Burnstones,
at
Burnstones
aforesaid,
to
Braaptan
in the County
of
Cumberland,
passing through the several Parishes
of
Knarsdale, Lambley,
and
Haltwhistle,
in the County of
Northumberland,
and
Lanercost,
Farlam,
and
Brampton,
in the County
of
Cumberland;
one
other Road from the Termination
of
the present Turnpike Road, from
