Anno Regni GEORGII III. duodecimo. An Act for Imbanking, Draining, and Preserving, certain Fen Lands and Low Grounds in the Parish ofRamsey , in the County of Huntingdon ; and in the Parishes of Doddington, March, Benwick, Wimblington , and Chatteris , within the Isle of Ely , in the County of Cambridge ; and for Amending the Road from a certain Bridge in the Parish of Chatteris aforesaid, called Carter's Bridge , by a Drain called Vermuyden's , or The Forty Feet Drain , to a Bridge called The Forty Feet Bridge , in the said Parish of Ramsey .

'WHEREAS the Bank of the Drain calledVermuyden's , or The Forty Feet Drain , from a certain Bridge in the Parish of Chatteris , within the Isle of Ely , in the County of Cambridge , called Carter's Bridge , to a certain Bridge called The Forty Feet Bridge , on the North Side thereof; and the Bank on the West Side of Lands called Thistle Green , to Broadall's , otherwise Broadwell's Old Bank , on the East Side of Ramsey Meer , in the Parish of Ramsey , in the County of Huntingdon , and the Bank of the Great Hilks , in Ramsey aforesaid; and the Banks of the River Nene , on the South and South East Sides thereof, from Ramsey Meer aforesaid, along the said River to Benwick ; and from thence to a certain House called Copalder House ; and from thence by or along the said River to a certain Place in the Parish of Doddington , within the Isle of Ely , in the County of Cambridge , called Flood's Ferry , by Ranson Moore ; and from thence by Borough Moore to Borough Moore Common ; are in so ruinous a State that they cannot be any longer preserved or kept in Repair, whereby the Lands lying adjoining to the said Banks are, through the Insufficiency of the same, overflowed with Water, to the great Prejudice of the Owners and Occupiers thereof: And whereas the said Lands, so overflowed by such Insufficiency of the Banks, contain in the Whole Eight thousand six hundred Acres, or thereabouts, and are abutted and bounded as follows; that is to say, On the South, by the said Drain calledVermuyden's Drain , otherwise The Forty Feet Drain , from Carter's Bridge aforesaid, to the said Bridge called The Forty Feet Bridge , in the said Parish of Ramsey ; and from thence, on the West Side of Thistle Green aforesaid, to Broadall's Bank aforesaid; and from thence, along the said Old Bank on the East Side of Ramsey Meer , in the said Parish of Ramsey , to the West Side of Lands called The Great Hilks ; and from thence along the said Great Hilks , on the North and West Sides hereof, to the River Nene ; and from thence, along the East Side of the said River Nene , by and through the said Hamlet of Benwick , to a certain House called Copalder House ; and from thence, along the said River Nene , to Flood's Ferry ; and from thence, along the said River, through Lands called Little Bradney Moore and Borough Moore , to the North East Side of Lands of Mr. John Household , next a certain Place called Borough Moore Common ; and from thence, along the said Land, of the said John Household , next Borough Moore Common aforesaid, but excluding the said Common, to a certain Drove or Bank in March called Ranson Moore Black Bank , and along the said Bank to the Hard Lands of Borough Moore Common ; and from thence, on the East Side of Lands of John Waddington Esquire, next Linwood Farm , excluding the said Farm, to a certain Drain called Middle Drain ; and from thence, along and across the said Drain, to Sedge Fen Drove ; and by and along the said Drove, towards the South East, to the North East Corner of Lands of Walden Orme, Humphry Sturt , Esquires, and others; and along the East End of the said Lands, and the East End of Lands of the said John Waddington and of Elizabeth Johnson , to the West End of an old Partition Dyke running across a certain Dole of the said Elizabeth Johnson , lying next Wimblington Green ; and then along the said Partition Ditch to the East Side of the said Dole; and then Southward, along the East Side of the said Dole, and the East Side of a certain Dole of John Waddington Esquire, next Wimblington Green aforesaid; and across a Ditch at the South-east Corner thereof, to the Hard Lands of the Park Leys ; and along the Skirts of the said Hard Land of Park Leys aforesaid, and the Skirts of the Hard Lands of Appleborough , and other Hard Lands of Doddington , to Copalder Drove aforesaid, excluding the said Hard Lands; and from thence, by and along the said Hard Lands of Doddington aforesaid, but on the West Side thereof, to the Turnpike Road at Doddington Causeway ; and by and along the said Turnpike Road to Carter's Bridge aforesaid: And whereas the said Fen Lands and Low Grounds so described as aforesaid, by reason of the low Situation thereof, and the Decay of the said Banks, cannot be sufficiently drained by the Means now used for draining the same without the Aid and Assistance of Parliament; may it therefore please Your Majesty that it may be enacted;' and be it enacted by the King's most Excellent Majesty, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliamentassembled, and by the Authority of the same, That the said several Fen Lands and low Grounds so abuttaled, bounded, and described as aforesaid, shall be and are hereby made Two separate Districts, with respect to the repairing and keeping in repair the said Banks of the said RiverNene , and the said Forty Feet Drain , otherwise Vermuyden's Drain , and the several other outward Banks herein before particularly abuttaled, bounded, and described; That is to say, that so much of the said Fen Lands and Low Grounds as lie on the South Side of Copalder Drove aforesaid, shall be and be called The Upper District or Division ; and that the Remainder of the said Lands and Grounds lying on the North Side of the said Drove, shall be and be called orDivision ; and that the said several Fen Lands and low Grounds so abuttaled and described as aforesaid, shall be and are hereby divided into Five Districts, with respect to the draining the same; and that the Lands and Grounds, containing Five hundred and thirty Acres, or thereabouts, being Part and Parcel of the Lands and Grounds herein before described, and called by the several Names of The Great Hilks, Broadall's , otherwise , otherwiseBroadwell's Holt , and The Pollin's , and abutted and abounded as follows; that is to say, From the West Corner of Lands of William Fellowes , Esquire, in Broadall's , otherwise Broadwell's aforesaid, in the said Parish of Ramsey , called Betty's Nose , next the said Forty Feet Bank ; by and along the said Bank to the Highlands near the said Forty Feet Bridge ; and from thence, on the West Side of Lands called Thistle Green to Broadall's , otherwise Broadwell's Old Bank ; and from thence along the said Old Bank , on the East Side of Ramsey Meer to the Great Hilks , and along the said Great Hilks , on the South West Side thereof, to the said River Nene , including the said Hilks ; and along the said Bank of the said River Nene , to a certain Stile in the said Lands, called The Pollins , on the East Side thereof, next Lands of the said William Fellows ; and along the said Lands called The Pollins , on the East Side thereof, to the North End of a Drove called The Four Hundred Acre Drove , including the Outring Ditch, which parts The Four Hundred Acre Farm, Pollins , and Broadalls ; and along the said Drove to the North Corner of Lands of Thomas Searle ; and from thence Eastward along the said Lands, but on the North Side thereof, to the West Corner of Benwick Turff Fen , and from thence, along a certain Droveway called The Turff Fen Drove , leading to Ramsey aforesaid; and from thence, along the said Drove, towards the South West to Lands of Francis Ibberson , in Broadwell's Holt ; and from thence, by the Division Ditch of the said Lands of the said Francis Ibberson , and the said Lands called Betty's Nose , to the Forty Feet Drain aforesaid; and that the said last-mentioned Lands, so described as aforesaid, shall be called and taken as and for the First District or Division: And that the Landsand Grounds, containing by Estimation Four hundred and forty Acres, or thereabouts, lying in the Hamlet of Benwick aforesaid, being other Part and Parcel of the Lands and Grounds within the said upper District, and abuttaled and bounded as follows; that is to say, from a certain Stile calledThe Chapel Stile , in the Hamlet of Benwick aforesaid, next the said River Nene , on the South Side thereof; and from thence, along the said River, to a certain old Drain, Sewer, or Dike, called theThe Smee Dike , on the West Side thereof, to a certain old Drain or Sewer called The West Water ; and from the said old Sewer or Drain called The West Water , on the South Side of Lands of the said Francis Ibberson , some Time since the Estate of Thomas Weddington , Esquire, deceased, and along the laid Lands to the South Side of Lands of John Burgess the elder, Gentleman; and along the same Lands, on the South Side thereof, to the South Side of Lands of John Gascoyne and John Byfield ; and along the same Lands, to the South Side of Lands of David Burgess , Gentleman; and along the same Lands, on the South Side thereof, to Lands of Mr. John Cooper ; and along the same Lands, on the Southward Side thereof to the Lands called Benwick Turff Fen ; and along the said Turff Fen , on the South Side thereof, and including the same, to the West Side of Lands of Thomas Langman ; and from thence, along the same Lands, on the West Side of the said Lands of the said Thomas Langman , to the North Side thereof; and from thence to the North Side of the said Benwick Turff Fen ; and along the same, on the North, to the North Side of the Lands of the said John Cooper ; and along the said Lands of the said John Cooper , to Lands of the said John Burgess ; and along the same Lands, by the Outring Ditch, dividing Lands of the...
