An A6t for the Relief of Poor Debtors, and others,
confined within the Gaol of
Dover
Caftle.

HEREAS there is within the Caftle of Dover a common Gaol
or Prifon for the fafe Cuftody and Confinement of all Perfons
arretted or detained for Debt, or on any Civil Procefs within
and throughout the Cinque Ports, the Two ancient Towns of Rye and
Winchelfea, and the Liberties, Limbs, and Members
thereof,
and there
is no public Provifion for the Maintenance and Support of the Perfons
who are or may be confined within the faid Gaol or Prifon, by reafon
whereof many of fuch Perfons have experienced great Diftrefs, and would
be in Danger of being reduced to Famine, but for the uncertain and
precarious Afliftarice of private Benevolence; and it is expedient that an
adequate Fund mould in future be raifed for their
Relief;
be it therefore
enacted by the King's moll Excellent Majefty, by and with the Advice
and Confent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in
this prefent Parliament afiembled, and by the Authority of the fame,
That from and after the paffing of this Act, there fhall be annually raifed Defcribing
within the Cinque Ports, the Two ancient Towns of
Winchelfea
and Rye, the Sum of
and the Liberties, Limbs, and Members
thereof,
for the Ufe of the

hundred Pounds, in the Manner and Proportions after mentioned ; that Apportion-
