Anno Regni G E O R G I I III. Decimo Septimo. An Act for building a Bridge across the RiverSevern , from or near a Place called Preen's Eddy , in the Parish of Brosely , to or near a Place called The Sheep-wash , in the Parish of Sutton Maddock , in the County of Salop ; and for making proper Roads and Avenues to and from the same.

'W H E R E A S the Parish ofBroseley , in the County of Salop , and the Parts adjacent, lying on and near to the River Severn , are very populous, and full of Mines and Manufactures; and the Town of Broseley aforesaid lies in a centrical Situation, between the Counties of Stafford, Warwick, Derby , and Leicester , and several Parts of South and North Wales : And whereas, if a Bridge was erected across the said River Severn , at or near a Place called Preen's Eddy , in the said Parish of Broseley , to or near a Place called The Sheep-wash , in the Parish of Sutton Maddock , in the said County of Salop , with proper Avenues or Roads to lead to the same; the Inhabitants of the said Parish of Broseley , and other Parts adjacent, as also the Mines and Trade of that Part of the County of Salop , would be thereby greatly benefited and accommodated, a more short, easy, and commodious Communication would be opened between the several Counties and Places aforesaid, and the same would be of great public Utility; And whereas the several Persons herein-after named are willing and desirous, at their own Charge, to begin, carry on, complete, maintain, and keep in Repair, a Bridge over the said River, from or near the said Place called Preen's Eddy , to or near the said Place called The Sheep-wash ; and to make and open proper Roads or Avenues to and from the same, as herein-after mentioned;' may it therefore please your Majesty that it may be enacted; and be it enacted by the King's most Excellent Majesty, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the Authorityof the same, ThatWilliam Yelverton Davenport Esquire, Robert Bromley Esquire, Thomas Stephens Esquire, Richard Lacon , Esquire, John Groome Esquire, the Reverend EdwardHarries Clerk, Thomas Phillips, Edward Blakeway, Samuel Manning, John Wilkinson, Francis Homfray, George Matthews, John Matthews, William Bancks the younger, John Hartshorne, John Barrett Corbet, Daniel Onions, Thomas Brettell, Thomas Brettell the younger, and Richard Brettell , together with such other Person or Persons as they, or any five or more of them, assembled at the first, or any subsequent Meeting, to be held in pursuance of this Act, shall nominate and appoint, under their Hands and Seals; and their respective Executors, Administrators, and Assigns, shall be Trustees, for setting out, carrying on, building, completing, and maintaining, at their own proper Costs and Charges, a Bridge across the said River Severn , from or near the said Place called Preen's Eddy , to or near the said Place called The Sheep-wash ; and for making and keeping in good and sufficient Repair proper Roads or Avenues to and from the same; and for putting in Execution the several Powers and Authorities in and by this Act given and granted; and, for that Purpose, shall have full Power and Authority, by themselves and their Agents, Servants, Workmen, and others, to remove any Shelves, or other Obstructions in the said River, and to dig up, take, and carry away, all Beds of Gravel, Sand, Mud, or any other Impediment whatsoever, and also to dig, cut, and level the Banks of the said River, in such Manner as shall be necessary and proper for the building the said Bridge, and to erect and make, in and over the said River, and the Lands adjoining, or near to the same, any Sheds, Trenches, and Landing-places, and to pull down and remove any Houses or other Buildings, Wharfs, or other Erections, and from Time to Time, and at all Times, to do all other Matters and Things necessary and convenient for making, erecting, supporting, and maintaining the said Bridge, and the Roads or Avenues to and from the same, and for making and doing the several other Matters and Things in and by this Act authorised to be done, doing as little Damage as may be, and first making Satisfaction and Recompence to the Owners, Proprietors, or Occupiers of, and Persons interested in, any Houses, Buildings, or other Erections, Lands, Tenements, or other Hereditaments that shall be made use of, pulled down, damaged, or prejudiced by, for, or upon account of erecting and maintaining the said Bridge, or by, for, or upon account of laying out and making proper Roads or Avenues to and from the same, or by, for, or upon account of the doing and performing any other Act, Matter, or Thing hereby authorised to be done and performed, for carrying the Purposes of this Act into Execution.

II. And be it further enacted by the Authority aforesaid, That one proper and commodious Road or Avenue shall be made to the said Bridge from the Turnpike Road leading fromBroseley to Bridgenorth , to begin at or near the End of Broseley Town, and to be continued from thence through the said Parish of Broseley , to or near Preen's Eddy aforesaid; and one proper and commodious Road or Avenue shall be made from the Turnpike Road leading from Wellington to Bridgenorth , to begin at the said last-mentioned Turnpike Road, and to be continued from thence through the said Parish of Sutton Maddock , to or near the Sheep-wash aforesaid; which said several Roads or Avenues shall, at the Charge of the said Trustees, be fenced off and separated from the adjoining Lands with Quicksets, and Posts and Rails, or otherwise, as shall be found necessary, with proper and sufficient Gates to open into and out of the said Roads or Avenues, through which the respective Owners and Occupiers of the said Lands, and their Servants and Agents, shall and may at all Times thereafter have free Ingress, Egress, and Regress, to pass and repass with their Horses, Teams, and Cattle; and the same Roads and Avenues shall be made, and at all Times afterwards maintained and repaired by and out of the Tolls and Dues hereby granted, or out of the Money to be borrowed on the Credit thereof, in such Manner as the said Trustees shall, from Time to Time, direct and appoint.

'III. And whereas, for the better Conveyance and Delivery of Goods and Merchandise, to be sent to and from the said RiverSevern , it may be necessary to lay out, make, and erect one or more Wharf or Wharfs, Warehouse or Warehouses, on the Banks of the said River, near to the said Bridge,' be it further enacted by the Authority aforesaid, That it shall and may be lawful for the said Trustees, and they are hereby authorised and impowered to make and lay out one or more Wharf or Wharfs, Quay or Quays, on the Lands or Grounds on either Side of the said River Severn , adjoining to the said Bridge, for the Purpose of loading and unloading Goods and Merchandises into and out of the Barges and other Vessels navigating on the said River: And also to erect one or more Warehouse or Warehouses, Weigh-beams and Cranes, for receiving, weighing, and landing the said Goods and Merchandises: And also to make proper Roads to and from the said Wharfs and Warehouses; and to erect any other Buildings requisite for the Purposes aforesaid, but not Dwelling-houses, other than a House or Houses for the Habitation of a Person or Persons to superintend and manage such Wharfs or Warehouses: Provided, that such Wharfs, Quays, Warehouses, Erections, and Buildings, be made within the Distance of sixty Yards from the said Bridge: And also that it shall and may be lawful to and for the said Trustees, their Executors, Administrators, and Assigns, by themselves and Agents, to have, receive, and take such Rates, Dues, and Prices, for the Wharfage and Warehouse-room of all Goods and Merchandises which shall be laid upon such Wharfs or Quays, or deposited in such Warehouses, as shall be agreed upon between the said Trustees, their Executors, Administrators, and Assigns, and the Owner or Owners of such Goods and Merchandises, or as shall be a reasonable Satisfaction and Amends for the Wharfage or Warehouse-room of such Goods or Merchandises.

IV. And be it further enacted, That it shall and may be lawful to and for all Bodies Politic, Corporate or Collegiate, Corporations Aggregate or Sole, and all Feoffees in Trust, Executors, Administrators, Husbands, Guardians, Committees, and other Trustees whatsoever, for and on Behalf of themselves, their Heirs and Successors, Femes-covert, Infants, or Issue unborn, Lunatics, Idiots, orCestuique Trusts, and other Persons whatsoever, and to and for all Femes-covert, who are or shall be seised in their own Right, and to and for all Tenants for Life, and all and every other Person and Persons whomsoever, who are or shall be seised or possessed of, or interested in, any such Houses, Buildings, Erections, Lands, Tenements, or Hereditaments, of any Tenure whatsoever, to treat, contract or agree with the said Trustees, or any three or more of them, for the Purchase thereof, or of any Part thereof, or for their Interest therein, either by a Sum of Money in gross, or by an annual Rent for the same, and to fell and convey the same as Occasion shall be or require, for the Purposes of this Act: And all Contracts, Agreements, Sales, and Conveyances which shall be so made, shall be valid to all Intents and Purposes; any Law, Statute, Usage, or any other Matter or Thing whatsoever, to the contrary thereof in any wise notwithstanding: And all Feoffees in Trust, Executors, Administrators, Husbands, Guardians, and Trustees, Corporations Aggregate or...
