CHAPTER cxxv.
An Act to confirm a Provisional Order under the
A.D.
1921
Private Legislation Procedure (Scotland) Act 1899
relating to the Church of Scotland (General
Trustees). [8th November 1921.]

HEREAS His Majesty's Secretary for Scotland has
made the Provisional Order set forth in the schedule
hereunto annexed under the provisions of the Private

63 Vict.
Legislation Procedure (Scotland) Act 1899 and it is °- 47-
requisite that the said Order should be confirmed by
Parliament:
Be it therefore enacted by the King's most Excellent
Majesty by and with the advice and consent of the
Lords Spiritual and Temporal and Commons in this
present Parliament assembled and by the authority of
the same as follows :
1.
The Provisional Order contained in the Schedule Confirma-
hereunto annexed shall be and the same is hereby

This Act may be cited as the Church of Scotland Short title.

SCHEDULE.
CHURCH OF SCOTLAND (GENERAL TRUSTEES).
Provisional Order to incorporate the Church of Scotland
(General Trustees) to vest in the corporation the
heritable properties and investments held by the
different sets
of
trustees
on
behalf
of the
committees of
the
General
Assembly of the Church of Scotland and
for
other
purposes,
WHEREAS the general work of the Church of Scotland
beyond the local spheres of kirk sessions presbyteries
and synods is directed and controlled by the General
Assembly of the Church of Scotland through standing
committees appointed for the purpose:
And whereas these committees comprise among
others the following :
The General Committee of the Church;
The Committee on the Endowment of Chapels of
Ease sometimes called the Committee for the
Endowment of Chapels of Ease;
The Committee on Small Livings sometimes called
the Small Livings Committee;
The Committee on the Aged and Infirm Ministers'
Eund;
The Committee on the Home Mission Scheme;
The Committee on Proposed Pension Fund for
Ministers;
The Committee on Christian Life and Work;
The Committee on Social Work;
The Committee for the Better Endowment of
Theological Chairs;
The Colonial Committee;
The Committee on the Conversion of the Jews;
The Foreign Mission Committee sometimes called
the Committee for the Propagation of the Gospel
in Foreign Parts especially in India;
The Education Committee sometimes called the
Committee for increasing the means of Education
and Religious Instruction in Scotland;

The Committee on Correspondence with other A.D. 1921.
Reformed Churches;
The Committee on Psalmody and Hymns;
The Committee on Maintenance of the Ministry:
And whereas each of the committees before named
makes an annual report to the General Assembly which
expresses approval or otherwise thereof and gives in-
structions thereon:
And whereas each of the said committees has funds
under its charge which have been invested in heritable
properties and investments the titles to which have
been taken in the names of different sets of individual
trustees for behoof of such committees respectively :
And whereas the said heritable properties and
investments held by each of the said committees with
the names of the trustees in whom they are at present
vested are detailed in the schedule annexed to this
Order:
And whereas the committee of the General Assembly
of the Church of Scotland called the General Committee
of the Church which is entrusted with the administration
of the general business of the Church so far as not
administered by any other committee in its report to
the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland which
met in Edinburgh on the eighteenth day of May one
thousand nine hundred and twenty drew the attention
of the General Assembly to the inconvenience and
unnecessary expense caused through the holding of
heritable properties and investments on behalf of the
several committees of the Church in names of different
sets of individual trustees and stated that the trans-
ference of such heritable properties and investments to
official trustees of the Church appeared to be the obvious
method to adopt but such transference would require
the authority of a Provisional Order:
And whereas the General Assembly having con-
sidered the report of the General Committee of the
Church appointed a special committee to consider the
whole question and instructed the special committee
to report to the Commission of Assembly in November
one thousand nine hundred and twenty :
And whereas the Act of the General Assembly
appointing the Commission of Assembly contained among
