CHAPTER cxxx.
An Act to extend the boundaries of the city and
A.D.
1937.
county borough of Cardiff and for purposes
incidental thereto. [30th July 1937.]

HEREAS the city of Cardiff (hereinafter referred
to as "the city") is a county borough under the
government of the lord mayor aldermen and citizens of
the city (hereinafter referred to as " the Corporation"):
And whereas the parish of Rumney in the rural
district of Magor and Saint Mellons (hereinafter referred
to as "the rural district") is situate in the adminis-
trative county of Monmouth (hereinafter referred to as
"the county") and adjoins the city:
And whereas it is expedient that the boundaries
of the city should be extended so as to include therein
the said parish of Rumney:
And whereas the unrepealed provisions of the
special Acts Provisional Orders and other Orders speci-
fied in the schedule to this Act were immediately before
the passing of this Act in force within the city and it
is expedient that those Acts and Orders as amended
by this Act should apply throughout the city as
extended by this Act:
And whereas parts of the county (including the
whole of the rural district) are areas specified in the
First Schedule to the Special Areas (Development and

Improvement) Act 1934 and are special areas within

1937. the meaning of the Special Areas (Amendment) Act
1937 and it is expedient in view of the exceptionally
1C£T68'& depressed financial condition of the county and the
c 31 ' ' rural district that the special provisions contained in
this Act with respect to the compensation to be paid
by the Corporation to the councils of the county and
the rural district in respect of matters requiring financial
adjustment in consequence of the passing of this Act
should be enacted:
And whereas it is expedient that the other powers
and provisions contained in this Act should be conferred
and enacted:
And whereas the objects of this Act cannot be
attained without the authority of Parliament:
And whereas in relation to the promotion of the Bill

24 for this Act the requirements of the Local Government

Act 1933 have been observed :
May it therefore please Your Majesty that it may
be enacted and be it enacted by the King's most
Excellent Majesty by and with the advice and consent
of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal and Commons
in this present Parliament assembled and by the
authority of the same as follows :
Short title. 1. This Act may be cited as the Cardiff Extension
Act 1937.
Interprets- 2. In this Act unless the subject or context
tion. otherwise requires
" Existing " in relation to any area altered by this
Act means existing immediately before the
appointed day;
" The city" means until the appointed day the
existing city and county borough of Cardiff
and thereafter the existing city and county
borough of Cardiff as extended by this Act;
"The council" means the council of the city;
" The Corporation " means the lord mayor alder-
men and citizens of the city acting by the
council;
" The lord mayor " " the town clerk " and " the
treasurer " mean respectively the lord mayor
the town clerk and the treasurer of the city;

" The general rate fund " and " the general rate " A.D. 1937.
mean respectively the general rate fund and
the general rate of the city;
" The local Acts " means the local Acts specified
in Part I of the schedule to this Act and the
Orders specified in Part II of that schedule
and so much of the confirmation Acts specified
in that Part as relates to those Orders;
" The appointed day" means the first day of
April one thousand nine hundred and thirty-
eight ;
" The city map " means the map marked " Map
" of the city of Cardiff as extended by the
" Cardiff Extension Act 1937 " and signed in
triplicate by Annesley Ashworth Somerville
the chairman of the committee of the House
of Commons to whom the Bill for this Act
was referred of which map copies have been
deposited in the Parliament Office House of
Lords in the Committee and Private Bill
Office of the House of Commons and with the
town clerk at his office;
" The county " and " the county council" mean
respectively the administrative county of
Monmouth and the county council of that
county;
" The rural district" and " the rural council"
mean respectively the existing rural district
of Magor and Saint Mellons and the rural
district council of that rural district;
" The parish council" means the parish council
of the existing parish of Kumney in the rural
district;
" The added area " means the said existing parish
of Kumney;
" The Act of 1929 " and " the Act of 1933 " mean
respectively the Local Government Act 1929

provisions of the Public Health Act 1875 and 38
