And whereas ai1 Act was
passed in the Seventh Year
of
the Reign of His late Majesty King
William
the Fourth, intituled
An
Act
to enable the
Company
of
PYO-
prietors
of
the
Bridgewatcr and Taunton
Canal Navigation
to
continzte
the
Liiie
of
the Canal below
the
Town
of
Bridgewater
;
and
for

the Powers
of
the several
Acts

to
the
said
Cnnal
:
And whereas
it
is
expedient that the Company of Proprietors of the
Bridgrzcciter
nizd
Tauntoiz
Canal Navigation should be empowered to make and
construct
a
Railway from
Brid’gewater
in the County of
Soinerset
to
the
Bristol
Channel at
or
near
Xto7ford
in
the Parish of
Stogzwsey
otherwise
Stoke
Cozwcy
in
the same County, and
at
or near to the
Terminus thereof
at
or near
Stoprd
aforesaid, to make and maintain
a Harbour, with all proper Piers, Reservoirs, Works, and Conveniences
connected therewith, and also to make and construct several Branch
Railways from the said intended Railway
;
but the Objects aforesaid
cannot
be
effected without the Authority of Parliament
:
May it there-
fore please Your Majesty that it may be enacted
;
and be it enacted
by the Queen’s most Excellent Majesty, by and with the Ad\-ice and
Consent
of
the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Con~mons,
in
this
present Parliament assembled, and by the Authority of the sanic,
That
all the Powers, Provisions, Matters, and Things contained in the said
recited Acts, or any or either of them,
so
far
as
the same are
not
re-
pealed, altered, or otherwise provided for, and except such
of‘
them
as
are by this Act,
or
by any Act or Acts incorporated herewith, repealed,
altered, or otherwise provided for, shall extend
to
this Act, and
to
the
scvcral Matters and Things hereby authorized
to
be done, as effectually
in all respects
as
if the same l’omrs, Provisions, Matters, and Things
werc repeated and re-enacted in this Act with reference to the Objects
and Purposes hereof.

And
be
it enacted, That the said Company
of
Proprietors
of‘thc
BTidgeuiater
and
Tazintoir.
Canal Navigation shall no longer be called
by
the Name of
The Company
of
Proprietors
of
the
B!ridgmmtej*
and
Taztnton
Canal Navigation,” but that the same Company shall
goin and after the passing
of
this Act be called and known by the
Name
of‘
‘‘
The
Bridgewater and Taunton
Canal, and
Stoyord
Rail-
way and Harbour Company,” and by that Name shall continue to be
a Body Corporate, with perpetual Succession and a Common Seal, and
shall sue and be sued, and shall have, keep, and retain
all
the Lands,
Hereditaments, Property, Estates, Effects, Powers, Privileges, and
Rights vested
in,
conferred upon, or acquired by them under or by
virtue
of
the said recited Acts, or any or either
of
them, and shall
hare Powcr to purchase and to hold Lands, and to do all other things
necessary for the Purposes
of
this Act and of the said recited Acts,
so
far
as
the same Acts are not repealed or altered by this Act.

And
be
it enacted, That
‘‘
The Lands CIauses Consolidation
Act,
1845,”
and
The Railways Clauses Consolidation Act,
1845,”
shall be incorporated with and form Part of this Act, and shall be
tipplicable to the Undertaking hereby authorized, and shall with this
Act be construed
as
One Act.
