An Act for maintaining and repairing, as Turnpike,
a certain Road commencing at or near the
North-west Gate of the Woodside Hotel Stable-
yard in the Township or Chapehy of Birken-
head,
and terminating at or near the Cottage of
Henry Berry in the Township of Little Meols
in the Parish of West Kirby in the County of
Chester; and for levying Tolls for that Purpose.

HEREAS the present Highway leading from Woodside
Ferry in the Township or Chapelry of Birkenhead in the
County ofChester^ through the Village of Bidsfcny to and
terminating at or near the Cottage of Henry Berry in the Town-
ship of Little Meols in the same County, is in Need of Improvement,
and it would be of great Advantage to the Inhabitants of the several
Parishes, Townships, or Places through which the said Highway
passes, and to the Public in general, if the said Road were made
Turnpike, and kept, maintained, and repaired under the Care and
Management of the Trustees to be appointed by virtue of this Act;
but the same cannot be effected without the Authority of Parlia-

ment: May it therefore please Your Majesty that it may be enacted ;
and be it enacted by the Queen's most Excellent Majesty, by and
with the Advice and Consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal,
and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the
Authority of the same, That all Her Majesty's Justices of the Peace
for the Time being acting for the said County Palatine of Chester,
together with James Aikin, Thomas Bolton, John Barton, Thomas
Brassey, Robert Benn, Thomas Case, the Honourable Sir
Oust, John Ddvies, Reverend Joseph Gate, John Baskenyle Glegg,
Reverend William Goodwin, Hugh Hornby, Richard Houghton, John
Holmes, John Huddleston, Samuel Johnson, William Tristram Keight-
ley, Edward Keene, James Lawrence, George Hall Lawrence, William
Laird,
John Shaw Leigh, Thomas Morecroft, James Mellor, Reverend
James Nlainwaring, Francis Richard Price, Samuel Richardson, Sir
Thomas Stanley Massey Stanley Baronet, the Honourable Edward
John Stanley, the Honourable William Owen Stanley, William Stanley

Thomas Brock Yates, and their Successors, bqitfg duly qualified to
act as Trustees of Turnpike Roads in England, shall be Trustees
for putting this Act into execution,

IT.
And be it enacted, That it shall be lawful for the said
Trustees, at any Meeting under this Act, to elect any Number of
Persons, duly qualified to act as Trustees of Turnpike Roads in
England, not exceeding Three in the whole, to be Trustees for the
Purposes of this Act, in addition to the Trustees hereby nominated ;
and such .Trustees so elected shall have the same Powers and
Authorities for executing this Act as if they had been hereby
appointed.
III.
And be it enacted, That the Trustees for executing this
Act shall hold their First Meeting at the Birkenhead Hotel, or at
other convenient Place in the Neighbourhood of the said
Road, on the Fourth Monday next after the Commencement of
this Act, or as soon afterwards as conveniently may be, between the
Hours of Ten of the Clock in the Forenoon and Two of the Clock
in the Afternoon, and shall then, and from Time to Time thereafter,
adjourn to and meet at such Times and Places in the Neighbour-
hood of the said Roads as they shall think proper.

IV. And be it enacted, That the said Trustees may appoint
Committees out of their own Number to take the Care and Manage-
ment of any particular Part of the said Roads, or to execute any
of the other Purposes of this Act, according to such Instructions
