An
Act
to
make further and better provision with
A.D.
1903.
-
regard to the electric light undertaking
of
the Council
and
for
the improvement health local government and
finance
of
the district and
for
other purposes.

HEREAS
the district
of
Aston Manor in the county
of
w
Warwick is
an
urban district within the meaning
of
the
Local Government Act 1894 and is under the management and
control
of
the Aston Manor Urban District Council (in this Act
called
"
the Council
")
:
And whereas
by
the Aston Manor Electric Lighting Order
1898 confirmed by the Electric Lighting Orders Confirmation
(No.
10) Act 1898 the Council were empowered to produce
and
supply electrical energy within the district
for
public and private
purposes and it is expedient to make further provision
in
regard to
the supply
of
electrical energy
by
the Council
:
And whereas by the Aston Manor Tramways Act
(herein-
after called
"
the Act
of
1900
")
the Council were authorised inter
alia
to
construct the tramways and works connected therewith
therein described and
to
work
such tramways and the existing
tramways within the district
as
for the time being belong
to
the
Council by means
of
mechanical power and
to
lease tramways in
neighbouring districts aud
the
Council on tile thirtieth day
of
June one thousand nine hundred and two purchased the tramway
undertaking
of
the
Birmingham
and
Aston Tramways Company
Limited situate within the district and
are
about
to
equip the same
for
electrical working and
also
purchased the remaining term
of
tile
lease
of
the tramways belonging
io
the corporation
of
the city
of
Birmingham from the common bounddry
of
the said city and the
said dist,rict to Old Square in the said city
:

And whereas the sum of henty-seven thousand
pounds
ahich
by the Act
of
1900
the Council were authorised to borrow
for
tlie
construction
of
the tramways and electrical equipment and station
by that Act authorised has proved insufficient for the purpose and
it
is expedient to authorise the Council to
borrow
further moneys
for
such purpose and for the purchase of the existing tramways
in the district and
for
tho general purposes
of
their tramway
undertaking
:
And whereas
it
is
expedient that better provision should be
made with reference to streets buildings sewers and drains within
the district
md
that tlie powers
of
the Council in relation
to
the
health local government and improvement
of
the district should be
enlarged as
by
this Act provided
:
And whereas it is expedient to authorise the Council to
contribute to the maintenance
of
Aston Hall and
Park
within the
district and
to
provide chairs and seats for public useand apparatus
for
games
in
any park
or
recreation ground within the district and
to
provide
a
band
of
niusic for the district
:
And whereas it is expedient that the Council should be enabled
to raise moneys for the purposes
of
this Act
:
And mhereas
it
is
expedient that the other provisions
in
this
Act contained should be sanctioned
:

of
this Act cannot be attained without
the authority
of
Parliament
:
And whereas an absolute majority of the
whole
number
of
the Council at
a
meeting held on the eighteenth day
of
December
one thousand nine hundred and

after ten clear days’ notice by
public advertisement
of
the
meeting and
of
the purpose thereof in
tlie Aston and East Birmingham News being
a
locd
newspaper
published and circulating in the district such notice being in
addition to the ordinary notices required
for
surnnioniug that
meetii,g resolved to promote the Bill
for
this Act
:
And whereas such resolution
was
pnblishd twice in the said
Aston and East Birmingham
News
and has received the approval
of
the Local Government Board
:
And whereas the propriety
of
the promotion
of
the :Bill for
this Act
was
confirmed
by
an
absolute majority
of
the whole
number
of
the Council
at
a
further special meeting held in
pursuance
of
a
similar notice on the sixth
day
of January
oiie
thousand nine hundred
and
three being not less than fourteen
days after the deposit
of
the Bill for this Act in the Offices of the
Houses
of
Parliament

whereas the owners and ratepayers of the district

this Act:
