An Act for the more easy and speedy Recovery of Small Debts within the Town of Ashby-de~ la-Zonch and other Places in the Counties of Leicester, Derby, Warwick, and Stafford. [9th May 1838.] W HEREAS the Parish or Town of Ashby-de-la-Zouch in the County of Leicester is a Market Town, and very populous, and the several Parishes, Townships, Hamlets, and Places of Blackfordby, Boothorpe, Breedon on the Hilly Coleorton, Gopsatt, Hugglescote, Heather, Ibstock, Lount, Moira, Net her seal, Normanton on the Heath, Newton Nethercote, Newton Burgoland, Overseal, Osga* thorpe, Orton on the Hill, Odstone, Swepstone, Swannington, Shacker- stone, Snareston, Snibstone, Staunton Harold, Sibson, Twycross, Thringstone, Whitwick, and Worthington, in the said County of Lei cester ; Bretby or Bradby, Chilcote, Caulke, Coton in the Elms, Cauld- well, Foremark, Church-Gresley, Castle-Gresley, Hartshorne, Ingleby, Lidlington, Linton, Measham, Melbourne, Milton, Newhall, Kings Newton, Newton Solney, Oakthorpe, Repton, Rosliston, Stapenhill, Smisby, Stanton by Burton, Stretton-en-le-Fields, Swadlincote, Tic/mall, Willesley, and Walton upon Trent, in the said County of Derby; Appleby, Donisthorpe, Packington, Ravenstone, and Wooden Boa:, in the said Counties of Leicester and Derby, or one of them ; Austrey, Grendon, Newton in the Thistles, and Polesworth, in the County of [Local~] 6 G Warwick; 486 1 VICTORIA, Cap.xv. Warwick; and Clifton Campville, Harliston, and Haunton, in the County of Stafford; and Edingale in the Counties of Derby and Stafford, or one of them, are also populous ; and in the said Town of Ashby-de-la-Zouch, and many of the said other Parishes, Townships, Hamlets, and Places, there are many very considerable Manufactories, which employ great Numbers of People, who, along with divers other Persons residing or trading within the said Parishes, Townships, Hamlets, and Places, contract small Debts, which in the whole amount yearly to a very large Sum of Money; and although many of such Debtors are well able to pay their respective Debts, they often refuse to pay the same, by reason of which their respective Creditors are either obliged to forego their respective Debts, or for the Recovery thereof to incur an Expence sometimes far exceeding and in all Cases disproportionate to the Sum in dispute ; And whereas it would be a great Benefit to the Inhabitants of the said several Parishes, Townships, Hamlets, and Places, and tend much to the Support and Protection of useful Credit within the same, if an easy and speedy Method of recovering small Debts within the said Parishes, Townships, Hamlets, and Places were provided ; but the same cannot be effected without the Aid and Authority of Parliament: May it therefore please Your Majesty that it may be enacted; and be it enacted by the Queen's most Excellent Majesty, by .and with the Advice and Consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament Commis- assembled, and by the Authority of the same, That William sioners Wootton Abney, William Abell, Thomas Adcock, James Allen, Thomas appom et. And be it further enacted, That when any of the said Commis-ot new Com- gioners of the said Court, or any of their Successors to be elected in missioned. manner herein mentioned, shall die, or refuse or become incapable to act, or shall cease to be qualified in manner herein directed to act as a Commissioner in the Execution of this Act, then and in every such Case it shall be lawful for the Commissioners for the Time being acting in the Execution of this Act, or the major Part of such of them as shall be present at a Meeting to be holden for that Purpose...
