HEREAS the making and constructing a Canal navigable
for Boats, Barges, and other Vessels, from the
Town
of
ALford
in the Parts of
Lindsey
in the County of
LincoZn,
through the several Parishes, Townships, Hamlets, or Places
of
Aljord,
Bilsby,
Farlesthorpe, Thurl@,
M2~rn4,
Hutto$,
and
Ander@,
to the Sea, at or near the Village of
Anderby,
all in the said Parts and
County, with a Basin
at
or near to
ALford
aforesaid
;
and the making
and maintaining a Harbour for Ships or Vessels, Barges, and Boats,
with a Pier or Piers, Jetty or Jetties,
at
or near to the Village
of
Ander@
aforesaid, and other necessary Works connected with such
Canal, Basin, Harbour, and Pier,
so
as to open a complete Navigation
from
ALford
aforesaid out to Sea, will afford a convenient Conveyance
for Corn, Wool, and other Agricultural Produce from
ALford
and the
several Villages and Places aforesaid, and the intermediate and neigh-
bouring Parts of the Country, to
London,
and various Ports on the
Eastern Coast
of
England,
and will also facilitate the Supply of Coals,
Goods,
Wares, and Merchandize to
AZJord
and the several Villages
and Places aforesaid, and the surroundmg Country, and
will
tend
to
the Improvement
of
the Estates and Property
in
the Vicinity
of
such

the Undertaking for making and maintaining the said Canal, Basin,
and Harbour, Piers, and other Works, and their several and respective
fhccessors, Executors,

dministrators, and Assigns, shall be and
hereby are united into
a
Company for making and maintaining the
said Canal, Basin, and Harbour, and Piers, and other Works necessary
to be connected therewith, consistently with the Rules, Orders, and
Nanie
of
the
Directions herein-after mentioned
;
and for that Purpose shall be

One Body Corporate by the Name and Style of

The
Arord
Canal
Company
;"
add by that Name shall have perpetual Succession, and
shall have a Common Seal, and
by
that Name shall and may sue and
Be sued
;
and the said Company shall have Power and Authority from
Time
to
Time and at all Times to purchase and hold Lands and
Hereditaments to them and their Successors and Assigns, for the
Use
of
the said Undertaking and Works, and also
to
sell and dispose

the said Lands and Hereditaments again, in manner by this Act
directed, without incurring any of the Penalties or Forfeitures of the
Statute
of
Mortmain.
11.
And be
it
further enacted, That
it
shall and may be lawful
for
Company
the said Company, and they are hereby authorized and empowered,
empowered
to
make
the
by themselves, their Deputies, Agents, Officers, Workmen, and
,
&c,
Servarlts,
to
cut, make, and maintain
a
Canal for the Passage of Boats,
Barges, and other Vessels, with Towing Paths on the Sides thereof,
fiom or from near to the Town of
A@rd
aforesaid, in and through
the said several Parishes, Townships, Hamlets, or Places of
AZjord,
Bilsby,
Fbrlesthorpe,
TJaurlby,
Munaby, HuttoB,
and
Anderby,
to
the
Sea, at or near to the Village of
Anderby
aforesaid
;
and also to make,
construct, and maintain
a
Basin for Boats, Barges, and other Vessels,
with proper Quays, Wharfs, Landing Places, Warehouses, and other
Buildings, Yards, and Conveniences for the Purposes of Navigation
and Commerce on and near the Banks and Sides thereof,
at
Ayord
aforesaid;
and
also to cut, make, and maintain a Harbour on or
adjoining the Sea Shore at or near to the Village
of
Anderby
aforesaid,
with such proper Piers, Jetties, Breakwaters, Quays, Wharfs, Ware-
houses and other Works within or adjoining thereto, as may be neces-
sary for
the
Reception, Shelter, loading and unloading
of
Ships and
Vessels resorting thereto and their Cargoes, and for the better enabling
such Ships and V:->els to come into and go out of and pass through
the same, and there to lie and continue; and also to make all
such
convenient Roads, Ways, and Passages
of
Communication with all
Roads
or
Highways already made or to be made within One hundred
Yards
of
the said Canal, Basin, and Harbour, or any of them, or at
any greater Distance not exceeding Five hundred Yards, over any
Commons
or
Waste Grounds,
as
may be requisite for giving necessary
Access
to
the same, and the Conveyance
of
Goods and all other
necessary Purposes at, in, and upon and to and from the same
;
and
it
shall also be lawful for the said Company, in order to supply the
Canal and Basin whilst making, and at all Times for ever after the
same shall be made, with Water, to divert and take and use the Water
of and froin
a
certain Drain or Stream called the
Boy
Grijit,
and
of
and from
a
certain Spring and Brook called
Ho[ywell
Spring,
and of
and from any other Springs or Waters which shall be found in digging
or making the said Canal and Basin, or either of them
;
and
it
shall
also be lawful for the said Company, and they are hereby authorized
and empowered, by

and Workmen, for the Purpose of feeding or supplying the said Basin
and Canal, or any Part or Parts thereof, with Water, to make, put
down, erect, and construct such Doors, Gates, and Tumbling Bays as
they shall think proper, in or across the said
Boy
Grft,
at or near to
the Angle of the Boundaries of the several Parishes of
Well,
Farles-
thorpe,
and
Willoughby
with
Mawthorpe,
and to widen, deepen,
straighten, and alter the Course of the Ditch or Drain, or
to
make a
new Ditch, Drain, or Feeder from the said Angle to and into the said
Basin
or
Canal in the Parish of
Ayord,
and also to widen and deepen
the Channel of the said Spring or Brook called
Holywell
Spring,
and
to divert or alter the Course thereof, and to cut and make
a
new
Channel
or
Feeder for receiving the Waters thereof,
in,
at,
and
from
the
ana,
