Act to empower the mayor aldermen and burgesses of

the borough of Bangor to construct a pier and other
works to maintain improve enlarge and extend the
Garth Wharf Jetty to acquire the Garth Ferry and
to improve and extend the landing place connected
therewith situate in the parish of Llandegfan and county
of Anglesey and for other
purposes.

HEREAS the borough of Bangor in the county of Carnarvon
(in this Act called "the borough") is a municipal borough
under the goyernment of the mayor aldermen and burgesses thereof
(in this Act called "the Corporation") and is subject to the Acts
relating to municipal corporations :
And whereas it is expedient that the Corporation be empowered to
make and maintain the pier approach and other works as by this Act
provided: .
And whereas an ancient ferry exists on the Menai Strait known
as the Garth Ferry and it is expedient that the Corporation be
authorised to acquire that ferry and to maintain work and use the
same and in connection therewith and for the purposes thereof to
improve and enlarge the landing place and the approaches thereto
Bituate in the parish of Llandegfan and county of Anglesey:
And whereas estimates have been prepared by the Corporation for
the purchase of land for and the execution of the various works by
this Act authorised and of the moneys which they will require to
borrow for providing the sum payable by them on acquiring Garth
Ferry and the estimates are as follows (that is to say):
For the pier and approach sixteen thousand pounds;
For acquiring Garth Ferry five thousand five hundred pounds;
For improving enlarging and extending the landing place at
Llandegfan and the approaches thereto three hundred pounds,

hundred pounds:
And whereas the several works included in such estimates are
permanent works within the meaning of section 234 of the Public.
Health Act 1875 :
And whereas an absolute majority of the whole number of the
council at a meeting held on the twenty-second day of November
one thousand eight hundred and ninety-three after ten clear days'
notice by public advertisement of Buch meeting and of the purpose
thereof in the " North Wales Chronicle " a local newspaper published
and circulating in the borough such notice being in addition to the
ordinary notices required for summoning such meeting resolved that
the expense in relation to promoting the Bill for this Act should be
charged on the borough fund:
And whereas such resolution was published twice in the said
. newspaper and has received the approval of a Secretary of State and
of the Local Government Board :
And whereas the propriety of the promotion of the Bill for this
Act was confirmed by an absolute majority of the whole number or
the council at a further special meeting held in pursuance of a similar
notice on the eighteenth day of January one thousand eight hundred
and ninety-four being not less than fourteen days after the deposit
of the Bill in Parliament:
And whereas the owners and ratepayers of the borough by
resolution in the manner provided in the third schedule of the
Public Health Act 1875 consented to the promotion of the Bill for
this Act:
And whereas plans and sections describing the lines situations
and levels of the works authorised by this Act and a book of
reference to those plans containing the names of the owners or
reputed owners lessees or reputed lessees and of the occupiers of
lands required or which may be taken for the purposes or under .the
powers of this Act have been deposited with the respective clerks of
the peace for the counties of Carnarvon and Anglesey and are in this
Act respectively referred to as the deposited plans sections and book
of reference:
And whereas the purposes of this Act cannot be effected without
the authority of Parliament:
May it therefore please Your Majesty that it may be enacted and
be it enacted by the Queen's most Excellent Majesty by and with
the advice and consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal and

of the same as follows (that is to say):

This Act may be cited as the Bangor Corporation (Pier &c.) Short
title.

The following Acts so far as the same are applicable to the Incorpora-
purposes of and are not varied by or are not inconsistent with this tl0n of Acls-
Act are incorporated with and form part of this Act:
The Lands Clauses Acts; and
The Harbours Docks and Piers Clauses Act 1847 :
Provided always that the provisions of the Harbours Docks and
Piers Clauses Act 1847 with respect to lifeboats and with respect to
providing a tide or weather gauge shall not be in force for the
purposes of this Act except so far as may from time to time be
required by the Board of Trade.

In this Act the several words and expressions to which luterpreta
meanings are assigned by the Acts wholly or partially incorporated
herewith have the same respective meanings unless the same fee
varied by this Act or unless there be something in the subject OP
context repugnant to such construction:
The expression "the borough" means the municipal borough-of
Bangor:
The expression " the Corporation " means the mayor aldermen and
burgesses of the borough:
The expression " the council" means the town council of the
borough:
The expression " the town clerk" means the town clerk of the
borough :
The expression "the borough fund " means the borough fund of
the borough :
The expressions " the pier " and " the approach " mean respectively
the pier and the approach to the pier by this Act authorised:
