The Secretary of State, being a Minister designated(1) for the purposes of section 2(2) of the European Communities Act 1972(2) in relation to measures relating to consumer protection, in the exercise of the powers conferred on him by that section, hereby makes the following Regulations:—

Citation, commencement and extent

1.—(1) These Regulations may be cited as the Stop Now Orders (E.C. Directive) Regulations 2001 and shall come into force on 1 st June 2001.

(2) These Regulations extend to Northern Ireland.

Interpretation

2.—(1) In these Regulations—

“the Act” means the Fair Trading Act 1973(3);

“Community infringement” means any act contrary to the Directives as transposed into the internal legal order of a Member State and which harms the collective interests of consumers included in the Directives;

“Community qualified entity” means an entity from another Member State for the time being listed in the Official Journal of the European Communities under Article 4(3) of the Injunctions Directive;

“the Directives” means the directives listed in Schedule ...
